Ch. 38-A Funny Story

After Lauren's car left in the direction of the mall I turned on mine. Barry sloped in shotgun and Dan, still scared of my little outburst, slid into one of the back seats.

"There is only one thing you need to know. Most of the time I will let you guys pick the music. Right now I'm listening to this." I push the power button to the radio and my music blares.

We all screech, covering our ears. Quickly I did the volume and turn it down.

"Thanks for blowing out my eardrums (Y/N)!" Barry praises sarcastically.

"Ah shuddup. Now you know how loud I listen to my music," I turn it up to a comfortable volume. "Imma tell you a story."

"Mm story time!" The boys seem pleased by this.

"When I was in 8th grade I had this iPod- I'll tell you more about it later- and I had some music downloaded on it. I had a few songs that were really loud and every day on the bus I would play them on the loudest volume into my ears with earphones. Soon enough when I got home sense it was super quiet my ears would ring. For like an hour after I got home. Then one day I woke up and everything was muted. But it's ok I just slept wrong." I smile.

"You must have had great earphones." Dan observes.

"Well they were actually pretty crummy but they had these sound protecters that made it safe for your ears and I could pop them off. So I did and they got at least ten times louder."

"Are we picking Ross up or is he meeting us?" Dan says from the back seat.

"Barry is he coming with us?" I whisper across the seat. He nods and I sigh.

"I think he's meeting up with us. Wanna text him?" I thought we were dropping him off. My mind pouts and I take a deep breath. It's alright. I plaster on a smile and turn down the volume as Dan calls Ross. I turn to Barry. "Can we not tell the others about what happened?"

"I'll be quiet but you have to take care of Dan." I nod and see that we're almost there. I pay attention to my music instead of Dan and am surprised when I hear him shout.

"What was that for!"

"We'll you weren't answering me so I thought you were ignoring me. He's coming in his own car."

"I just zoned out that's all. Geez."

I make the final turn and park in the driveway. We're leaving again anyways. I walk up to the door and knock. Within a few seconds Arin opens the door and smiles.

"Hey (Y/N)! We weren't expecting you. Sorry for the mess." He leads us inside.

"We'll I think we were going to pick up Suzy and you and head to the mall. Or maybe leave you with Dan. Depends."

"What are you doing at the mall?"

"The second half of a bet between me and Ross." Barry grins evilly into our conversation.

"I couldn't miss that! Hold on I'll tell Suzy your here and get changed out of this." He motions to his fluffy PJ bottoms and robe. The guys make themselves at home and I awkwardly lean on the edge of the couch. I feel like an outsider, however unprecedented the feeling is. Barry pulls out his phone and starts texting someone. I'm interested but I don't know who 'Kevin' is.

Barry catches me looking and smiles. "You will meet Kevin at the mall."

"Why would I meet him at the mall?"

"He's in on the bet. You'll see."
