Abigail Stanton was flipping a few pancakes for her son, right when Cody suddenly pounded down the stairs, scaring the wits out of her. She suddenly felt a stinging sensation, realizing she burned herself. She cried out, dropping the spatula in her hand.

"Mom!" Cody exclaimed, concern evident in his voice for his adopted mother. "Are you okay?" He rushed up to her as she poured cold water on her slightly red palm.

"I'm fine, Cody,"

"Are you sure? Do I need to get Doctor Carson?"

"I'm fine, Cody, its okay." Abigail gave him a weak smile, patted his shoulder with her free hand.

"I better get ready for school then. What's for breakfast?" Abigail turned back to the stove to see smoke coming up from the the pan.

"Oh no! The pancakes!" She exclaimed, her eyes wide. His pancakes are burned.

"Pancakes?" Cody repeated, confused. Abigail turned off the stove, waving her hand to get the smoke out of the kitchen.

"I ruined your pancakes," She mumbled angrily. Why did she have to ruin them???

"Aw, its okay, Mom. I can eat it... Its not so burned."

"Are you sure?" She bit her lip, her eyes watering.

"All I have to do is put some syrup and butter on it!"

"Oh, right. Okay." She watched her son take the pancakes out of the pan and put it on a plate.

"Still smells good..."

"Oh, Cody,"

"Its fine. I can eat it."

"But its burned!" He started to cut it with a knfie and fork but it hardly budged. He tried again.

"Maybe you're right...these are really burned pancakes!" Cody laughed along with his mother.
