My heart was racing as I ran full speed towards the train cart. Marcus was close behind me but due to his ankle, he couldn't run as fast as I could. I winced as a mixture of rocks and dried leaves sliced at the skin on my heels.
' God I hope she's okay ' I thought as I reached the rear of the cart. I grabbed onto the side bars to help my body stop as I looked inside of the cart. Marcus almost ran into my side causing me to stumble a bit.
I stood at the entrance. My figure frozen in its place and my eyes widened. Infront of me, a Death Angels back faced Marcus and I. It was hunched over someone as if it were about to devour them.
I stood on my tip toes in attempts to see the person whom was covered by the creature. I couldn't see their face but they were crouched over and had a rifle in their grip.
' who are you? ' I thought. Almost instantly, I spotted something I thought I'd never see again. On their wrist, a thin red and blue platted ribbon sat. There's only one person I know who has that. Just before the Death Angel struck her with its claws, I took action.
"GET THE HELL AWAY FROM HER!"
an enraged yell escaped my throat. Immediately, the creature paused inches away from slashing Regan's face. It slowly turned and dropped on all four legs. It's head hung low as it walked passed me. Quiet but noticeable groans escaped it's mouth as if it were apologising. We watched as the Death Angel was no longer within our sight. I gasped, remembering the presence of Regan Infront of us. I rushed over to her and crouched Infront of her for a few seconds. She seemed to not have noticed Marcus and I yet as her eyes were shut tight as was her mouth. Marcus grabbed my shoulders, gently moving me out of the way of his sister. He shook her before pulling her into a tight hug. She hugged back the second she new it was him. I just sat back and smiled. I hadn't seen Marcus smile in a while and let me just say that I missed it.
"Come on you two, It's getting dark. We need to find somewhere to sleep." I said whilst signing for Regan.
Regan's eyes widened when she saw me. I looked at the ground, not wanting to argue at the moment. To surprise, I felt her grab my hands. I looked back up to see her smiling at me. I smiled back, only for her to pull me into a long ass hug. She pulled away and began signing to me.
"[y/n] I'm so sorry about everything I said. I just want to help the people at the island but I didn't even think about how it could effect you or anyone else." She signed rapidly. She was obviously still shaken up from the previous events but I knew she was excited to see me, as I was for her.
"It's okay Regan it really is. I'm sorry too." I signed in between laughs of happiness.
She smiled again, pulling me into another hug. Only this time she pulled away quickly and looked over at Marcus.
"Let's go find somewhere to sleep." She signed.
We both nodded in agreement and began to head for the train station. It was the closest shelter in sight that we would be able to use before the moon came up.
~
It had been a few hours since the sun went down. Regan and Marcus were asleep. Whereas here I was, awake as ever. Earlier Regan said something about needing a boat to get to the island. We were all pretty tired but I'm sure that's what she said. I looked over to check if they were still asleep. To my luck, they were.
I stood to my feet, grabbing my flash light from my spare jeans and putting it in my pocket. If I can find a boat before the sun rises then that's a day or two saved from our trip. Silently, I manoeuvred my way around Marcus and Regan's still bodies. I looked back at them, thinking for a while. ' I should leave a note incase. ' I thought as I pulled a near piece of paper of the counter along with a broken pen. As long as there is ink, it should work. After a few minutes, I stuck the note next to Marcus's bag and made my way out the door, careful not to wake them.
As I walked through the forest in the direction of the map, I kept thinking about that note I had to write.
' stay silent, gone to find a boat '
Was that enough information for them or should I have written more? What if Marcus doesn't listen and makes a noise? He would be dead before I got back.
I shook my head, releasing the negative thoughts. Who am I kidding? Marcus and Regan are smart. We did just fine before I could control the creatures, he will know to be silent.
My thoughts were interrupted as I heard movement come from behind me. My head wipped around as did my body. It was dark and I couldn't see much. Only the light from the moon and my torch could be seen. The silence was almost unbearable. I began to turn my back when I heard the same rustling sound. I held my torch in my hands as I moved closer to the noise. My hand brushed against the leaves, pushing them out of the way. Suddenly, a tall man jumped at me. Shoving me to the ground without warning. I yelped as I landed on my arm. I quickly turned onto my stomach and reached for my torch. The man grabbed at my ankles just before I could grab it and dragged me towards him. Tears were brought to my eyes as dirt flung into them. I cried out, wanting to get away from him. I clawed at the soil, trying to pull myself up and out of his grip. I extended my arm in one last attempt to fight back. The feeling of cold metal gave me a flush of relief. I managed to turn onto my back and face the man. I gripped my torch tightly and made a quick plan in my head. I sure as hell hope it works.
Will all my strength, I brought my arm up as quickly as I could and struck the man across the head with my torch. He fell off of me and onto the ground. I scrambled to my feet and held my arm. I know something happened to it but I didn't have time to cry now. I watched as the man held a hand to his head. He then looked with anger and tried to stand. Out of fear, I hurried over to him and brought my torch to his skull atleast a dozen times before he stopped moving for good.
My heart dropped as I realised what I just did. I jumped to my feet and took a few steps back, shining my torch over the mess I just created. The man,, his face was all.. ruined.. split open and.. smashed. Blood had pooled around what was left of his head, mixed with bits of brain and skull shards. I wouldn't even be able to imagine what he looked like before I did this.. Holly fuck I just killed someone.
I shielded my eyes as an unexpected orange and yellow glow filled the sky. I held my hand above my eyes and looked at the sky. The sun had started to rise, causing the air to warm. As my surroundings became clear in the morning sun, I noticed I was on a bridge. Bridges mean water and water means,, well hopefully means boats. I hurried over to the edge and scanned the area.
No luck.
I ran to the other side of the bridge and looked over at the water to see many reflective surfaces. I allowed my eyes to adjust to the brightness. Soon, I could see atleast 20 boats. All lined up at the docks. I jumped with excitement, Quickly making my way off the bridge and into the direction of the train station. I paused, looking back at the man before continuing on my way.
I hope he didn't have a family waiting for him.
AU- just a question, can anyone actually see the gifs I put at the start of the chapters or no? Because I know that some people can't.
