The distant sounds of cheers and whistles could be heard from the end of 'Main St'. A soon to be baseball game was about to begin, parents lined up waiting for their given seats. I was currently walking at a quick pace along side Lee. We are heading to the pharmacy which has a small aisle of food to pick up some oranges for the game. Once we arrived Lee kindly held the door open for me, I hummed a quick thank-you and walked inside.

You're probably wondering why I'm shopping with Lee, well let me explain. When my mother was pregnant with me, my father decided it would be a good idea to join the army. Let me tell you one thing, it was most definitely not a good idea. He ended up tangled in the ropes of the practice and choked to death. I know right, such a humiliating way to go. Anyways, his death left my mother alone and heartbroken during my birth. My mother still took care of me, we are really close actually but things were tight. One day, I begged my mum to go to the park. It's a good thing I did because that was the day I met Marcus Abbott. Evelyn and my mum immediately became best friends. Marcus, Regan and I became an inseparable trio and Lee, well, he treats me like a daughter. Lee is the father that I never had. ( Literally. Never had.  ) Since that day, my mum always leaves me with the Abbott family when she has work, and that just so happened to be today. Enough backstory, let's get back to the real thing.

When Lee walked in behind me, the soft ringing of a bell rang through the store, signalling that someone had arrived. He walked straight past the counter to the fruit section. I stood at the front, waiting for Lee to return. As I let my boredom get the best of me, I focused my attention on the small TV across the counter. I couldn't quite understand what the news reporter was saying but they seemed panicked. I was about to ask the cashier to turn the sound up as Lee tugged on my shirt, lightly pulling me out the door. He continuesly checked his watch while walking, almost dropping the oranges.

"We're going to be late." He mumbled.

"We will make it as long as you don't drop those oranges." I said, laughing a little.

He slightly turned his head enough to look at me, a small smile was plastered on his face in reaction of what I said. We finally made it to the field with a little time to spare. In amongst all the cars and people, I saw Evelyn and waved in her direction. She saw me and waved back with a big grin, Beau clung to her side. Lee and I made it to the stands where Emmet was seated, Regan one row down. I sat myself down next to Regan and took an orange from the bag, handing it to Lee. Just as Lee was about to cut the orange, Regan place a hand on his shoulder.

"Your hands are disgusting, let me do it." Regan signed

I took a glance at Lee's hands and to say the least, Regan was right. Lee took notice of his hands as well and handed the orange and knife to her. I drew my eyes away from the stands and glued them to the field, scanning the area for Marcus. When I layed eyes on him, I was surprised that he was already looking at me. I grabbed a couple pieces of orange and hopped down from the stands, skipping towards where Marcus was standing by the fence.

"Hey, are you alright?" I asked, a hint of worry in my voice.

"Yeah... No, I'm nervous." He confessed.

"Open your hand." I demanded. Marcus looked confused but still opened his hand without question. I placed an orange slice onto his palm, and popped one into my mouth. I smiled wide, showing the orange slice. In between laughs Marcus copied my actions, showing a large smile. We both broke into a fit of laughs and almost fell to the ground. I stopped laughing when I heard Evelyn clear her throat, I stood up straight and nudged Marcus to stop laughing. Once he notices his mother standing Infront of us, he fixed his posture real quick. The serious look on Evelyn's face suddenly changed into a mischievous grin.

"You too would be so cute together." She randomly blurted out. She turned and walked away, leaving Marcus and I a blushing mess.

"I should probably get back to the stands." I awkwardly said, trying to hide my flushed cheeks.

"Y-yeah, see ya [y/n]." He agreed, rubbing the back of his neck.

I gave him a wave goodbye as I approached Lee and Regan. Lee was giving me the same grin Evelyn was, but Regan seemed completely oblivious.

"Knock it off, seriously." I mumbled

"I'm all serious, serious is me." Lee said. I furrowed my eyebrows at him while he just gave me the same grin.

"I was just saying." Evelyn stated as she passed Beau an orange slice.

I sighed turning my attention back to the game. Marcus was up next, and he looked stressed. I waved my arm to get his attention. When he looked at me, I signed a quick sentence.

"Breathe, keep your eye on the ball."

Marcus smiled at me before walking onto the field. Readying his bat, he stood with his legs shoulder width apart. He still looked nervous as crap but hey, I would be too.

Strike one

Strike two

It wasn't looking good, two strikes already. He hopped out of the way for each ball that hurtled toward him. Marcus looked back at me with pleading eyes as if to say;

"Get me off this field."

All I could do was smile and sign encouraging words to him. If I'm being entirely honest, I felt really bad. The awkward situation before he went onto the field probably had him worked up more than he was to begin with. The third ball was about to be thrown his way, I stared with my eyes fixated on Marcus. It's all or nothing, if he misses this ball then he will be sent off the field. It felt as if the ball was traveling in slow motion, my eyes followed the baseball's movement up untill the very end. The ball flew right past Marcus and into the glove, but he didn't hop out of the way this time. What happened? I jumped off the stand and jogged over to him. I soon noticed that his attention was focused on the sky. I turned my head to the direction he was so interested in.

And that's when I saw it.
