 Damian's pov

I was patrolling in Gotham for the night when I received a call from Father. There had been a big explosion in the middle of the river at the most industrial part of the city. The police was already there and said that a barge had exploded. It wasn't an accident. How did they know? There was a witness, a four year old kid crying for his dad.

When I arrived there, Batman was already talking with James Gordon. I understood right away the reason why Batman was interested in the explosion. I could see the emplacement where the exploded barge had been tied to the bank. It was where a sketchy scientist had been going for a while. Father thought that the scientist was linked to the League of Assassins. We had asked the police to follow his every move a week ago.

I walked toward Gordon and Batman, catching on their talk. The more I went near the river the more the smell of burning metal was strong. A police boat had its lights on the dark polluted water, a few burnt pieces of the barge still floating.

"- and the kid is too shaken to talk coherent. After all, he is only four. But according to our info, he really is the son of the scientist." Gordon was saying.

"I want the recording of the CCTV cameras." Batman said. Gordon nodded.

"Were you able to find anything from the barge?" I asked.

He shook his head. "The explosion was big and everything had burnt. We are going to dredge the river tomorrow but there is not point of doing it tonight. It is too dark."

He turned toward one of his officers that handed him a plastic bag.

"The only thing that is related to the explosion is this." he said handing us the plastic bag. "The boy had it."

I took the bag before batman could. I looked inside and a shiver ran down my spine immediately.

"I'll keep it." I said.

"You can't. It's a piece of evidence for this case." Gordon argued.

I frowned, my grip tightening around the plastic bag.

"You don't know shit about what is going on, old man." I talked back. "Gotham police can not do any-".

"What Robin tries to say so diplomaticly, is that the people who did that are to be taken seriously." Batman cut me. "We can't tell you how dangerous the threat is. We need a few days to investigate the reason for those people to be back in Gotham."

Gordon crossed his arms on his chest, a big frown wrinkling his forehead.

"I'm going to call some people to help us with this. Please, give us a week then we will share what we would found with you."

Gordon sighed. He clearly looked tired. But he nodded nonetheless.

"Thank you."Batman said before turning around and walking away.

I followed him to the Batmobile and he started to drive away.

The silence in the car was deafening. I tightly hold the plastic bag in my fist, looking through the window. Gotham can be beautiful at night.

"Are you going to tell me what's in the bag?" Batman voice resonated in the car. I closed my eyes for a few seconds, pressing my forehead against the cold surface of the window.

"You were right. The scientist works, well worked, for the League of Assassins." I finally said. "They might have found out that the police was following him. Not only they knew that the police was following him but they also knew that the police did it for us. So they killed him. To send us a message."
