I let go of Damian's hand as soon as the door of the plane opened. Light flowed into it but its warmth didn't seem do reach my bones. My fingers felt so cold now.
I stepped out and went down the stairs. The fresh air of the mountains welcomed my lungs. The plane had landed in a wide yard on a plateau. The walls of the HQ were not far and the golden gates had been opened. Raw and raw of armed assassins were posted at the entrance, still like statues. Behind the fortified walls, the HQ was standing like a looming threat.
It had been built like a pyramid. The first level was a yard for weapons trainings and accommodations for the guards at the walls. Stairs led to the second level; a yard for hand to hand fights trainings. It was circled by the rooms where the lower ranks lived. Again stairs led to the third level. A garden surrounded by accommodations for the ranks of the middle. Finally, stairs led to a huge castle, built like a pagoda. The higher ranks lived in the ground floor. The second floor was for meeting rooms and weapon storage. The third floor was where Sensei – the only rank Y – and I lived. The fourth was were the Al Ghul's family lived.
It had been rebuilt after the destruction leading to Ra's al Ghul's death. Talia had drawn the plan herself. I knew that somewhere in the wooden walls, a secret path leads in the mountain's guts where the Lazarus pit was. Since Ra's al Ghul's death, I never set a foot there. I was almost certain that the secret door was in the al Ghul floor. However no one was allowed up there, not even Sensei. Only a few selected servants went up to take care of the rooms but they were not stupid enough to try to snoop around.
Damian went down the plane and stopped next to me, his gaze lost on the buildings. I guessed many memories were coming back to him. At the gates, two silhouettes started walking toward us. Taking a deep breath, I went toward them, Damian following without a word.
A few more steps and we could see Sensei walking, with a slight bow, in a deep blue robe and many golden necklaces around his wrinkled throat. His long grey hair were held high by a tight bun. His piercing blue eyes went from Damian to me, his lips in a thin line.
A step ahead of him, Talia, wearing her assassin tight armour. Her katana strapped to her back was glistening under the sun. Her green eyes settled on Damian as we stopped a few feet away from each other.
I bowed slowly at her in silence, not crossing her gaze. I could almost feel Damian eyes on me.
"Welcome back home Master Damian" Sensei finally said with a bow to stop the silence to grow. "Your quarters are ready. It must have been a long trip and you might want to clean yourself before anything."
In the corner of my eyes, I saw him nodded.
They led us inside of the walls and we started climbing the stairs on the levels. Each time a member saw us, they bowed down at Talia and Damian. She hadn't say a word. It made me anxious.
When we finally reached the doors of the castle, my injured tight was burning. Talia snapped her fingers and two servants appeared.
"Clean yourself then we will all meet in the ceremony room." she said, her voice void of any emotion.
"Let me show you the way to your quarters, master Damian" one of the servant said softly.
He glanced at me, uneasy before taking a step toward his mother.
"Y/n is injured. She needs to be treated correctly." he announced.
"Do not worry son. Sensei is going to take care of it." Talia answered.
With a last glance, Damian followed the servants inside. After the echo of his steps disappeared, Talia walked to me.
"You seemed to have succeed your mission, yet I can not see it that way."
I looked down but her fingers gripped my hair, forcing me to look at her cold gaze. I pressed my lips not to let out a sound.
"Did you seriously think I wouldn't know that he is here willingly, after you failed. I know that if you and he are here right now is because he freed you from his father's cage. You disappoint me greatly Y/n."
Her other hand dug into my hurt tight. I let out a wince feeling a stitch being pulled.
"You'll go back to training until you prove yourself good enough to be at my son's side. Is that clear?"
"Yes." I answered under my breath, trying to stop memories of the past flowding my mind.
She gazed at my face.
"He seems to see something in you. But I can not see it." she laughed coldly.
I grunted as she threw me at her feet, my knees knocking harshly against the floor.
"Remember Y/n, you obey to me as long as my son is not back into the League officially. I have to make sure his father didn't damage his mind too much with his vigilante bullshit. Then you'll be his bitch to obey to his will, nothing more." she spatted. Turning her heels, she walked away.
I waited for her to be out of sight before standing up. Pain bloomed into my leg as I leaned on my – now – bleeding tight.
Wrinkled fingers wrapped themselves around my wrist.
"Let's clean you up." Sensei said, leading me to the third floor. We walked into my quarters; a living room, a bathroom and a bedroom.
"Undress." the old man said, closing the panel door of the living room behind us.
I did, sitting on the couch. He kneeled next to my injury. The pad of his fingers brushed my skin making me shivered.
Pulling tools and bags of herbs from his pockets, he started his work.
"Our great leader is greatly disappointed in you Y/n. And I can not say I'm not either." he scolded me. "Being captured by the Batfamily..."he tutted. "It might even look like you did it on purpose."
"I didn't" I answered, looking blankly at the ceiling.
"Are you questioning the League's purposes?" his finger pressed a bit too harshly against the wound making my leg shake reflexively. "Should I remind you what the League did for you? You live thanks to this organisation. You learned how to protect yourself. You've been taught in order to be the sword and shield of the next leader. This is a great honour. Ra's al Ghul – his soul be bless – had great hopes for you. He almost saw you as his own granddaughter. You don't want to let him down, do you?"
I shook my head. "No."
"But you let the Batfamily blew up one of the Lazarus pits..."
"I didn't! I swear it Sensei. You know that Tal-" I protested but his piercing eyes shut me up.
"You failed too many times lately. Our great leader is right to make you go back to training." I bit my lower lip at his words. "You'll need to go through every exercises." He leaned his face toward the new neat stitches, his breath hitting my skin. I gulped. "Every one of them".
