 Damian's pov

The rain against my heating skin, I watched the smoke disappeared and Y/N with it.

Y/N ...

Y/N ... was alive.

"Robin!?"

Someone was calling for me but I was frozen. I couldn't move. I couldn't even blink. As if I closed my eyes for less than a second, I would be back to the Wayne's manor, in my bed and everything would have been a dream ... or a nightmare.

"Robin?! Where the fuck are you?"

But everything had been real. The Rank X was Y/n. She was alive. She had been at my mother's side all along. She was ... She was here just a few minutes ago, breathing. How could she ...

"Robin! What are you doing here?"

My brain wasn't able to process the information. I was in shock. It never happened before. My whole body fell suddenly numb. I didn't even react when a hand pressed my shoulder. Batwoman's face appeared in front of me, but I gave no reaction. I was somewhere else. In my memories. I was still stuck in the Lazarus pit when her hood fell and I could see her.

"Robin? Hey! What happened?" Kate's lips moved but I couldn't hear her. All I could hear was Y/n's cold and bitter voice and the blood rushing in my eardrums. So much hate in each of her words.

"Robin! Robin! Damian!"

A sharp pain crossed my face, making me blink. I looked at Kate.

"Wh- what did you slap me?" I asked, pressing my gloved hand against my burning cheek.

She glared at me. "Fuck Robin, don't do this ever again. It was like you weren't in your body any more." and she lunged at me, hugging me tightly. I wanted to try to take her off me but I suddenly felt exhausted, so I let her.

"We should go. The others are waiting." Kate finally said when she let me go. I only nodded. We made our way out of the forest, walking toward the entrance of the smoking wood factory. I could feel Kate glancing at me, a worry frown on her face.

I could see Batman and Nightwing waiting in front of the Batmobile and Kate and Dick motorbikes. Before reaching them I stopped Kate.

"Don't mention what happened in the forest." I whispered not looking at her.

"But Dam-"

"Please."

She stopped talking, her frown deepening even more.

"You never said please before. Damian, whatever happened there, you need to talk about it to someone."

"I will. When the time is right. But Kate not now okay?"

She licked her lower lip before nodding. And relief flooded my veins.

The ride back home was silent and tensed. I knew that my father was angry at me for leaving like this. He had specificity told me not to go solo. But how could I let Y/N go like that? My fingers were drumming against my tights. Mixed feelings were flooding my body, waves after waves.

Happiness for knowing that she is alive. Anger against my mother for lying. Worry for Y/n and what she had to go through all alone. Concern on why she never tried to reach me. Melancholia because of our shared memories. And excitement, as memories of our childhood came back in flashes. She always had been by my side. She was my family back there, even more than my mother could ever be. My life at the League of Assassins of my grandfather had been hard. At the time I couldn't see it. But after living with my father and Alfred, after meeting Kate and Dick, well, my view on my past life had changed. I could now see the atrocities I had been through. But Y/N had been there with me, living the same atrocities, even worst because of her status among the League. She had been one of my pillar. And if each good memory I can find in my past, she is in it.

But what now? During our childhood we were on the same side. Now we were enemies.

We finally reached the Batcave. I went out of the car and tried to escape to my room before Bruce could say anything. But, of course, I could not be lucky with him.

"Damian, you won't put of foot out of this room without an explanation." his voice echoed in the cave. In the corner of my eyes, I could see Kate and Dick taking their helmets and masks off. I licked my lower lip before turning around to face my father. His eyes are dark and I knew that he was trying to stay calm and control his anger.

"The Rank X was trying to escape. I thought it was important to stop her." I explained, steadying my voice.

"Before going there, we say not to go solo. You ignored it once again." he said coldly.

"We already had the control of the factory anyway." I argued back, now angered by his accusation. I always felt like no matter I do, no matter how much I try to change, he would always see my past mistakes.

Bruce was about to say something back but Kate stepped in.

"No need to argue about this. What is done is done. We were able to destroy this pit. That is what matter, isn't it?" she said, sending me a worry glance.

"Where you able to see who the Rank X is?" Dick asked curiously.

Flashes on Y/N's eyes blinded me for a second, making me feel dizzy. Her words haunting my ears; If you want answers let's meet here in two days. Same time. I blinked to chase her face away. Alone.

"Damian?"

I looked at them as if I forgot about them. I shook my head.

"No. I didn't."

Dick's and Bruce's faces seemed disappointed but Kate's was suspicious. I passed a hand on my face, sighing.

"I'll go rest. I ... Fighting against the League once again ... it's still hard for me." I said, only saying half the truth. But they seemed to understand, nodding. After all, the League was led by my mother. It had been my family.

Dick patted my shoulder.

"I guess, we all need to rest." he muttered.
