Previously...
*Dr. Williams comes walking through a set of double doors, looking exhausted and defeated.*

Continuing:
*You watch Dr. Williams walk into the room. He looks around. He seems relieved to see Emily and Xavier and their family have gone, but then he notices you and Lizzie and takes a deep breathe.*

As he is walking over, you already know what he is going to say and yet you are still in complete shock when he says it.

You snuggle tighter to Lizzie and wish you could bury your face in your hands and cry, but you try to remain calm.

Dr. Williams: I'm sorry. We did everything we could but-

Lizzie: But?

Dr. Williams: But her lungs were just too damaged. She didn't make it through surgery. I'm so sorry.

He looks as if he wants to show emotion but is trying to be professional.

You feel like you are falling. Just falling down inside yourself and you don't know how to get back out. Dead. Alora is dead.

Lizzie: Y/N! Y/N!

*She is shaking you*

Y/N: What? What happened?

*You sit up from laying on the bench and pull Lizzie's jacket (that you were using as a blanket) off of you. *

Lizzie: You we're having a nightmare. Dr. Williams is coming over. I think the surgery is done.

*You sit fully up and take her hand*

Dr. Williams: We'll I am happy to report that for now at least, Alora is out fo the woods! She is in the NICU now, resting up from her big first day on Earth.

Y/N: That's wonderful!

*You hop up and smile widely, then you lean down and kiss Lizzie and she smiles too.*

Dr. Williams: So I don't see a crowd anymore, should I be optimistic enough to say... Congratulations on becoming parents?

Lizzie breaks into one of the most proud and happy smiles you have ever seen. Her eyes sparkle and and her lips part to show her her pearly teeth. The only time you've seen her smile like that before was when you got married.

She turns to you still smiling and answers Dr. Williams while looking into your eyes.

Lizzie: Yes Dr. Williams you could be optimistic enough to say that. And thank you!

Y/N: Yes, thank you

Dr Williams: Of course. I'll give you two a moment alone before we discuss particulars.

*He walks over to the desk and begins writing in a chart.*

Lizzie has still not looked away from you.

Lizzie: You know, I think this is what people feel like when all their dreams come true.

Y/N: Yes. Because literally every one of my dreams has come true. All I wanted as a teenager was to be a dancer and actor. And that happened and it lead to me meeting my celebrity crush and her becoming my wife and the mother of my daughter.

Lizzie laughs

Lizzie: I don't think you ever told me I was your crush in high school.

Y/N: Well you were.

*Lizzie puts her hands on either side of your face and kisses your forehead. As this always does, it makes you feel warm and safe inside.*

Lizzie: I love you Y/N.

Y/N: I love you too.

*She puts her arms around you and you bury your face in her shoulder.*

After a long minute, you part and walk over to Dr. Williams.

Dr. Williams: Alrighty, are you ready to see her?

Y/N: Yes!

Lizzie giggles at the impatient tone in your voice.

Dr. Williams: Okay well let's head back to the NICU then.
*You all begin walking*
Now, as you know, Alora has undergone two surgeries and was a premie baby. Many premie babies need to stay in the hospital a while to monitor their development and that's even without going through surgery. So there is a chance she will need to be here for quite a while. However, you can visit her everyday and you are welcome to stay the night as well. We can provide cots for you both in the NICU.

Y/N: I think we'd like that. We both are used to staying in hospitals at this point, but she isn't and we want to be there for her.

Lizzie nods in agreement

Dr. Williams: Alright then I'll send someone to fetch those.

*You arrive at the NICU and Dr. Williams takes you over to Alora. After explaining more in detail about her surgery and recovery, he leaves you.*

A little while later a nurse comes over and sets up you're beds for the night.

Y/N: So Dr. Williams didn't really explain this, but when can we hold her?

Nurse: Soon. Her body is recovering from the trauma, but it is good for babies to be held, it helps their development. I'll tell Dr. Williams resident to come help you.

Lizzie: Thank you.

Nurse: It's the least I can do. Glad to hear she made it through and she's got such great parents looking out for her!

*Ten minutes later another doctor walks into the room and over to you.*

Dr. Wilson: Hi! I'm Dr. Wilson. You're Alora's parents?

Y/N: Yes, we are. And are you Dr. Williams resident?

Dr. Wilson: Sure am! As soon as I make sure all of Alora's vitals are doing okay you can hold her.

*She checks the charts and machines.*

Dr. Wilson: Okay, who would like to go first.

Y/N: Lizzie!
You say abruptly
I have gotten to hold her already and Lizzie hasn't.

Dr. Wilson: Good then Mrs. Olsen why don't you take a seat.

Lizzie: Mrs. Y/L/N Olsen.
She says as she sits down

Dr: Wilson: My apologies.

*She opens up the incubator and very carefully lifts Alora out, she is still connected to a lot of wires and things.*

She places her in Lizzie's arms and helps her adjust so that Alora is fully supported and places a blanket over top.

Dr. Wilson: I'll be over at the nurses station if you need me.

She walks away and you sit down next to Lizzie.

Suddenly you notice that she is crying

Y/N: Lizzie! What's wrong?

Lizzie keeps looking down at Alora

Lizzie: Absolutely nothing is wrong. Everything is perfect.
