Having rescued the fisherman, Katara, Sokka, and Aang resumed their journey. But before long, the companions would have to stop again, for Sokka had become sick—and delirious. The companions set up camp at an abandoned structure in the ruined city of Taku. Despite her efforts to care for her brother, Katara soon contracted the same illness. Aang knew he had to find a remedy for his friends. Fortunately, he found an herbalist institute on a nearby mountain. There, the old herbalist informed him that the only way to cure Sokka and Katara was to have them suck on frozen wood frogs... for their skins secreted a special kind of medicine against this illness. Without wasting a second, Aang hurried to the swamp and successfully caught five frogs.
But just as he was about to head back to his friends, Aang was taken prisoner by a clan of archers, who took him to a fortress. The man who had commissioned the archers to find the boy was the ambitious and self-centered Admiral Zhao of the Fire Nation. He, too, wanted to capture the Avatar for his own purposes, and was especially determined to beat Zuko to it, for he despised the disgraced prince.
Aang's arms and legs were shackled to a pair of posts so that he could neither use his bending nor escape. To make matters worse, the frogs he had caught were beginning to thaw. They wriggled out of his clothes and hopped out the doorway! It seemed as though Aang had lost his chance to save Katara and Sokka. Just then, however, a mysterious masked figure known as the Blue Spirit strode into the room and freed Aang. As they made their escape, Aang was very surprised to discover that the Blue Spirit was none other than Prince Zuko! After safely reaching the forest, Aang asked his rescuer if perhaps they could become friends, but Zuko's answer was to hurl a huge fireball at him! Aang quickly dodged and fled.
Returning to the swamp, Aang once again collected some frogs, and brought them to his friends. Katara and Sokka sucked on the frozen frogs, and were soon cured... although both of them were quite disgusted when they realized what they had tasted.
