Afraid of his best friend's reaction, Zane lands in the cover of the trees. He folds his wings away and watches them from a distance. He just needs to know that Emma is ok.
She's not ok. Even from here, Zane can see the ground beneath her turning dark with blood. He should have been there to catch her. He should have interfered before God cast her from heaven. This was all his fault.
There was nothing Zane could do as he watched Emma endure her punishment. He couldn't tear his eyes away as she transformed into a cow.
