Even when time moved slower, everything felt brighter and freer with the presence of a lack of secrets.

The alertness and buzz of Silver Palace had gone down with the sun. With just three customers scattered across seats in the restaurant, the hostesses had cleaned around, ready to close up.

The jingle of the door rang through, halting all movements. Everyone looked up to see who the customer was, and Esmé did a double-take once her eyes landed on Kian.

They hadn't made plans for him to come to get her that day.

Scarlett, who was closest to the door, approached him with a huge smile. "Kian! It's been a while."

He acknowledged her with a nod and a brief smile, but his eyes moved around the restaurant, searching. "Do you want something to eat? Your usual? Well, it can't be called that if you haven't been here for some time but I still remember it." She added with a wink. "Medium-sized chocolate chip pancake and one large cup of Americano."

With his search becoming futile, he turned to Scarlett, interrupting her rambling. "I'm here for Esmé, actually."

Scarlett swerved in Esmé's direction at once, wide-eyed, mouthing a 'when did this happen'.

Esmé's cheeks flushed as she moved to them with a smile on her face.

Kian's face lit up with a smile of his own, finally noticing her, and he went forward to meet her halfway. "Hey."

"Hi."

He watched her for a moment, just taking her in. Her hair, though packed up into a ponytail, showed the stress from the day's work that matched the tired look on her face. While he wanted to adjust the wayward strands of her hair, he held himself back, remembering where they were. "Are you done?"

"Not really," Esmé replied and turned to the customers still seated. "I have to wait for them to be done first, you know."

"Oh no, you don't!" Scarlett chirped in from the side with an enormous grin.

"Scarlett." Esmé groaned at the excited look on her face.

"I'm serious!"

"What about the customers?"

Scarlett waved her hand in dismissal, rolling her eyes. "Don't you worry your dear self about them. The rest of us will handle that. You just go on and enjoy your date. God knows you deserve it," she added sending a minor wink Kian's way.

Esmé couldn't help the smile on her face, but she knew doing any of that would be risky. "And Mon-El?"

"Oh, there's absolutely no need for you to worry about him." Both of them turned to behind the counter where Mon-El stood, already scowling their way. "I'll handle him."

Turning away from Mon-El, Esmé looked to Scarlett, wanting to appreciate but tell her off about the impossibility of the task. Her words got stuck as she saw the smile on Scarlett's face she didn't think she had ever seen before, while Scarlett stared at Mon-El.
