The chaotic movement of people through the large room from the check-in desks to cafes, some from the gates and others through other gates to various destinations, matched the turmoil Esmé felt inside of her.
Standing in the airport in front of the people she called family in the past couple of months hit a lot different than she thought it would. Was she to say goodbye now because she had found the original family she was looking for, even though these ones would remain forever in her heart as the ones she had when she had none?
Taron stepped up first.
"Thank you very much for this, Taron," she said, but he shook his head.
"Paying for your trip is the least I can do for Vinko. It doesn't need thanks. Just don't be a stranger, okay?" He leaned in and pulled her into a hug. "And smile, life has given you the rarest opportunity to reunite with your family after five years. You should skip about and shout at the top of your lungs," he said into the hug.
Esmé nodded, unable to keep the tears from dropping at the warmness of his voice. She couldn't deny the fact that she was looking forward to seeing her family so much but at the same time she wasn't ready to say goodbye to this one.
He pulled back from the hug and wiped her tears. "Don't cry now. My children will have my head, knowing I took your first tears."
She chuckled, sniffing, and he smiled, taking a step back for the others to step in. Ronnie, Petra and Hermione stood by the side, all with hooded gazes in their eyes. Very obvious they were holding back their own tears.
Upon seeing her watery eye, Petra groaned and rounded upon Taron. "Really dad, you had to make her cry."
"Come on, you know it's not my fault women just burst into tears at my awesomeness now, Petty," Taron said, and sent a wink to Esmé. "I'll be off to complete any other thing. Keep it brief. You don't want her to miss her flight."
Scarlett and Mon-El stepped forward to where she stood, pulling her into a hug and saying their farewells. Lucija came forth next, then Persephone.
Persephone sighed, standing in front of her. "This is overwhelming, isn't it?" she asked her straightforwardly in a way that made Esmé laugh.
"A little?"
"Eh, no need to deceive me. I know you have received hugs and hugs and you've been told not to be a stranger. I'm a fan of the truth, so I'm going to tell you this little truth of mine even though it can come off two ways and one of those ways would hurt my son."
Esmé's brows scrunched up. "What do you mean?"
"You need to do what is good for you, all the consequences be damned," she said with a pointed gaze.
Persephone's words edged deep into Esmé's heart, leaving her dazed and lost in thought up till the point where Ronnie, Petra and Hermione walked up.
"Wow, Persephone must have given you one of her one-lined speeches if you're that lost in thought," Hermione said, breaking through Esmé's thoughts.
