summary

my mother told me I'd be sent to hell if I ever felt this way about a girl. ❞
❝Don't take this the wrong way, but your mother's a git.❞

plot

Mary grew up in a very Christian household, and attended a Catholic school. She was raised by her mother to believe that liking someone of the same gender was against the bible, and would get you sent to hell. When Mary got her Hogwarts letter her mother was furious. She said that magic is the devil's work and that no child of her's would ever go to a school for it. Of course, after lot's and lot's of convincing from her daughter, professor McGonagall, and Hagrid practically having to kidnap her from her house, she was able to go.

It took her a while to get used to the magic school, and get unused to her Catholic school. She was still expecting a switch or ruler to slap her hand hardly everyone she did something she shouldn't. She wasn't even allowed to wear makeup at her old school. She had watched many girls get punished for wearing it.

She started to become quite close to a girl and an odd girl during their third year at the school, and by their fourth year they were the best of friends. While training in secret with The Boy Who Lived as their 'professor', Mary begins to feel for Luna, the way she should feel for boys, leading to go for Ginny for advice in he beginning of her fifth year.

Ginny told the girl that her mother was wrong, and quite frankly a git. She told Mary that it doesn't matter who she likes, and that she shouldn't feel ashamed of it.

Luna was comfortable with liking girls as well as boys. She was a bit confused on what she should do when she began to like her best friend though. She wanted to tell Mary, but she was worried she didn't feel the same way. She knew how Mary was raised and really didn't want the girl to stop hanging out with Luna just because her mother told her that liking girls is wrong.

But finally, towards the end of their fifth year, Mary had finally decided to tell Luna how she felt, and was overjoyed when she felt the same way. She suddenly didn't care about everything her mother had told her was wrong. Suddenly all she cared about was that her best friend felt the same way about her. Her best friend liked her back.

canons

~Luna and Mary having a lot of physical contact. Always holding hands, or hugging, or resting their head on the other's shoulder

~Mary's mom naming her Mary because of the bible (that's why her name needs to stay the same)

~Mary's happiest memory (for the patronous) being something with Luna

~Mary going with the group to the Ministry of Magic, and her and Luna protecting each other the whole time

~Ginny saying the second part of the summary when Mary comes to her for advice

~Mary should be really close with Neville and Ginny too

~Mary should have recurring nightmares, and when she has them she crawls into bed with Luna who helps her calm down.

~Mary is a ravenclaw and shares a dorm with Luna and two other ravenclaw girls

(I chose the title because Autophobia means 'fear of oneself' and Mary is scared of admitting who she is, and accepting that she likes girls)
