plot

Clara Vesper made the very stupid mistake of forgetting her diary at James Potter's house, after spending the day with the marauders. Because she was the first to leave, all marauders were there when James discovered the diary.

Despite Remus' protest that they should respect her privacy, they opened the diary. And at first, there was nothing too important. Mostly her ranting about bad days, things she loves, or exciting her day was. They almost deemed it boring until James Potter turned to the final page, and found words written there that immediately sparked all of their interests.

Dear Diary, i spent the day with the marauders again, and have to get over the tiny (but not tiny at all) crush on him. He doesn't know or course, if he did that would completely ruin our friendship. I just can't help it. Everything he does is so perfect and he's just so completely wonderful. I can only imagine what would happen with the marauders found out i had a crush on one of them. They'd go mental. They would never let me live it down, and of course i could never look him in the eyes again. I think that's why i haven't written his name. I think I'm subconsciously scared that one of them is going to find this, even tough i know that will never happen, and everything will be ruined. At least this way if they found  they wouldn't know who it's about.

They couldn't believe it. She fancied one of them, and they had no idea which one. It could be any of them. She spent the same amount of time with each of them. She had her own special thing with each of them.

Her and James both played quidditch (i think she'd be better as a keeper but you can choose her position) and often spent hours practicing, just the two of them. She often took Remus to chocolate tastings her parents organized, just the two of them. They'd spend the day together, stopping at stores and loads of other places. Her and Sirius often talked about muggle cars, and she was even saving up to buy him a motorcycle for his 16th birthday (though none of them knew that). And she introduced Peter to muggle plays, and dragged him to one each time there was a good one in London. She had a strong bond with each of them, and they didn't know who.

They were dedicated to find out though. For the next year they watched her body language around each of them. They noticed how often she gave Peter forehead kisses, something that made them think it was him. But then she blushed when James complemented her outfit one day and they were stuck between the two of them. Then she laid her head on Remus' lap while they studied, and they decided the only person they could rule out was Remus. Until, of course, Sirius was in the hospital wing from a some sickness, and laid by his side all night, regularly checking up on him.

They were back to square one with no idea who it was, and tomorrow they would be going on christmas break. They would be able to study her behavior while at James house and through the christmas season. They were convinced they'd figure out who she liked before returning to Hogwarts, but they were proven wrong. She was just as affectionate towards each of them. There was still no way to figure out who she liked, but they refused to give up.

It continued this way for a while, until she was invited to a dinner with the slug club, after receiving very high marks on all of their exams. They knew this was the perfect opportunity to find out who she liked. Of course she would choose to ask the one she liked. From the day she was invited to the dinner (Monday), to the day of the dinner (Saturday), they were on edge. Everytime she opened her mouth their attention was immediately on her, waiting for her to ask one of them. Everytime one of them was alone with her they couldn't focus on what they were doing. They again, just waited for her to ask one of them.

Finally, the day before the dinner, she approached James when he was by himself, and asked if he would accompany her to the dinner. He immediately boasted to the marauders that he was the one she liked, and the article in her diary was about him. He still liked Lily of course, but he couldn't help but think about what a relationship with Clara would be like, and honestly, he didn't hate it. He didn't hate the idea at all. In fact, he quite liked it.

After the dinner, James confessed to her that he had found her diary when he left it at her house. She, of course, asked if he had read it. At first, he held a guilty look on his face and thought about denying it, but he did admit that he -in fact- had read it, and 'knew' that he was the one she liked.

She was embarrassed, but mostly mad that they had invaded her privacy like that. She stormed away, not listening to his calls after her. She spent days figuring out what she really thought of the situation, and eventually decided to come clean. She pulled James away from the rest of marauders, and told him that he had been right, and he was the one she wrote about.

Basically for the rest of the story, they start dating after that (you can decide if it was soon after or if they waited for some reason). You can add in the rockiness that it's in every relationship. The occasional argument and disagreement, but their overall healthy relationship.

{This plot could easily work for any marauder. And you can change the names around in it. Maybe she does go to the dinner with James, but it was because she was too nervous to ask the one she actually liked. You can make her end up with whatever marauder you want (and i think this would be better as an au with no war, so even Peter works if you want). If you want help with filling out a certain part, or extra plot lines and ideas just pm me and I'll be glad to help.}

canons

~the boys also being sweeter and more affectionate because they secretly want to be the person Clara likes

~them devising a whole plan and making tally marks of all the affection she's shown each of them

~Sirius being majorly butt hurt when they first rule him out, but feeling very proud when he's brought back into the rankings

~you can choose Clara's house. I feel like she's best as a slytherin but if you disagree you can choose whichever

~the story is mainly from Clara's point if view, despite the plot strongly revolving around the marauders.

~they all have a small crush on her but most of them don't realize it

~Clara being slightly suspicious of the boys antics but overall ignoring it

~This should start in their fifth year. (If you do start it in sixth year though, change her getting Sirius a motorcycle to his 17th birthday instead ot 16th.)
