summary

In which a girl unfamiliar with the feeling of love falls for a girl scared of ending up like her stepbrother

plot

Growing up with an abusive and alcoholic mother has effects that most kids can't escape. Maya was one of the ones who couldn't escape, unlike her sister who turned to be a straight A student, with great behavior, and lots of friends. The twins were like a coin, and Maya was the opposite side of that coin.

Smoking and drinking, just a couple of the hobbies that Maya sadly picked up from her mother. She did everything she could not to end up like her but it didn't work. She fell right into the habits that made her mother a bad person. She tried not to blame herself too much, after all it's hard not to turn out at least a little bit like the only person who raised you. St least it was for Maya, her sister however, seemed to do a great job.

After her final warning from Police Chief Hopper after her latest arrest, she is forced to stay out of her trouble. But when she makes her way out of the police station she becomes intrigued by the fiery red head zooming by on her skateboard, and that fiery red head would be lying if she said she wasn't intrigued by the blonde with the dark makeup walking out of a police station.

After fate just so happens to make the only empty seat next to Maya, Max has no other choice but to sit by the girl, which leads to them talking, and learning more and more about each other.

As the girls spend more and more time together, Maya finds herself learning what it's like to love someone who wasn't her sister.

~Hopper tries to protect Maya as best as he can when he sees her doing something she shouldn't. He still takes her into the station, but he doesn't let anyone else talk to the girl, and he tries to convince to stop with the life she's moving forward with until he's forced to say something like 'I can't keep covering for you. This is your final warning, if I catch you doing something again, I'll have no other choice but to send you to juvie

~Maya and Brandy were friends with Will in elementary school due to their parents being friends, but after their mother's actions take such negative effect on Maya she begins to drift away from him. She still talks to him every once in a while though, and if she sees anyone bullying him she stands up for him

~Brandy should be a part of the party, and a lot different than Maya

~Maya is really jealous of her sister for the way she turned out. A lot of people, including her mother and Mike, compare Maya to Brandy quite often, which only makes everything worse.

~Max calls Maya jailbird because she saw her walking out of the police station

~Dustin having a big crush on Maya

~i feel like Mike and Brandy should like each other and start dating in either s2 in place of mileven or the end of s3 before El moves, and Mike realizes that El isn't the one he wants and instead it's Brandy

~Maya tries to stay away big groups of friends because she's scared she'll get attached to all of them then find a way to ruin it

~Max should ask Maya to dance at the snowball, kiss her, then ask her out. Maya should be really worried about saying yes because she doesn't want to ruin anything, which she tells Max who assures that she won't, and after some reassurance from Max she agrees to be her girlfriend

~Maya is one of the most touch starved humans you will ever meet so she should be really clingy with Max. Always trying to hold hand, or lay her head on her shoulder or in her lap
