Outside of the harbor, there was snow everywhere, and people crowded the streets. Beautiful cars passed us. Jake was awestruck. (So was I) My parents, who were holding there luggage, held their gloves thumbs out. A small, yellow car stopped in front of us and Jake and I looked at each other confused. I had never seen a car stop for a thumb before.

We rode past dozens of buildings at a time. They were beautiful. I had to lean over Jake to see all of the pretty lights the big city had. There were people sitting in buildings eating and watching movies. There was a huge statue of a woman holding a stone tablet and a torch. She wore a pale green crown and gown. She was beautiful in her glory.

Mom and Dad talked quietly to each other and laughed silently. They seemed happy. We felt happy. This was going to be a good few weeks.

We arrived at a huge building with a long red carpet and plenty of floors. A man stood outside in a suit and took our bags. We walked on the long red carpet to a weird looking door. It was two big Xs pushed together that slid into the walls when a small room fell slowly behind it. It looked like magic, but dad told us it was an elevator. A muggle device.

Inside of this elevator, another man in a suit stood inside.

"Where to?" He asked with a smile on his face.

"Third floor please." My father said. The outside disappeared as we were lifted in the air. The movement tickled us and we laughed. The man in the suit chuckled cheerfully and secured his hand around a golden bar that hung from the wall.

"How do you think this works?" Jake asked.

" I don't know. Maybe there's someone at the top who is pulling on rope. "

"Yeah, probably." My mom laughed and tussled my hair.

" No, boys. There is a pulley. They're using the elevator 's weight to move it up. "

"Wow!" I exclaimed. The elevator suddenly jerked. Another weird door opened, revealing an entirely different room. I understood. An elevator was a staircase with no bumps that moved straight up. It had to be magic. We walked down the hallway.

"This is so awsome!" Jake exclaimed. " Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Wailer! "

"Oh! Just call us Doris and Marvin." Mom said. "It won't hurt anything. We are delighted to have you with us anyway."

" Of course we are!" Dad exclaimed pointing his finger in the air. " We don't have company very often, and when we do it's for work. This is a nice change. "

Jake smiled. It was a soft, simple smile.

Dad turned to a door that was already open. When we walked through the threshold. Dad shut the door immediately. He handed us our wands.

"No magic outside of the apartment." He said with a mischievous smile. "Have fun."

" Marvin. " Mom laughed. " You bad boy. " She smacked his shoulder.

Dad walked to the center of the huge, well-furnished room. He pulled out his wand and pulled a suitcase towards him. He flicked his wand softly in front of his face and drew the curtains of the open windows in the hotel.

"Mobiliarbus!" He shouted. The suitcase flew open and a Christmas tree flew out from inside of it. "Wingardium Leviosa." He moved the tree to the right side of the fireplace. Next he hung stockings. Even one for Jake. He dropped a box in front of us. "Go crazy." He sid. IN the box was ornaments lights and a tree skirt.
