Help me tf improve😀👆🏻Lily's POV
We went to the castle in little boats. Only the first years, though. A gigantic man helped us. I sat in a boat with Sev and two other kids I'd of course never seen before.
The view of the castle was magnificent. The lake spread out until under the castle. Up in the sky were about a million stars visible, and the moon was half- full. The man, whose name was Hagrid, Sev told me, held out a lantern.
Nothing was pushing the boats. I assumed it must've been some sort of magic. I was speechless, and even asked Sev to shut up so I could enjoy the view I had been given.
I spotted James, Sirius, Peter and Remus in a boat left in front of us. They were laughing at something. At someone, I realized. They were laughing at us. At me. I looked Remus in his eyes and sensed a form of pity.
I noticed he hadn't been laughing at all. Well, he had, at first, but when they'd turned to us, he'd stopped.
"Don't pay them any attention they don't deserve," Severus said. He placed his hand around my shoulder and turned me around. Remus looked guilty. That's the last I saw of him.
That was, until the sorting. I took Sev's advice and didn't pay them any attention. Remus walked up to me. "Hey- eh.. do you remember me?" I ignored him.
"Hey?" He asked again. I ignore him again. "Jesus Christ, what is with you. I give up," he added, muttering under his breath.
I stood up for myself, "Well excuse me, but weren't you the one who had just been laughing at me? You act like you're entitled to a conversation with me because I know your name or whatever. I don't owe you anything."
Remus shrugged. He looked at my neck. "Lily?" He asked. I murmured something very intelligent, like, "I don't know." I realised he'd been looking at a necklace I'd gotten from Sev. "Nice to meet you too," he finished, and laughed at me. With it came some kind of disappointing sigh. I couldn't figure out wether he was disappointed in me or in himself.
The witch that had taken us to the great hall now stood in front of a tiny stool. On that stool was an hat. It looked old, but also magical.
I felt a hand land on my shoulder. It was Sev. With glittering in his eyes, he pointed at the ceiling. I looked up and saw exactly what I'd seen outside. It was magnificent.
The million stars were visible through the ceiling. No, wait, there wasn't a ceiling. It was painted on it? As if Severus could read my mind, he said, "The ceiling is bewitched to look like the night sky!"
"Wow..", I brought out. Professor McGonagall started to yell names. I didn't pay that much attention, but I noticed Sirius being sorted into Gryffindor. He seemed scared about it, but also proud. I had also figured out his name was Sirius Black.
The next name I recognised was my own.
"Evans, Lily!" McGonagall said loud and clear. I nervously started shuffling forward. My fellow first years created a path for me. Sev gave me an encouraging pat on the shoulder. When I passed James and Peter, I noticed Remus wasn't with them. James said, "Hope to see you in Gryffindor, Evans," and he grinned.
I rolled my eyes at him and continued strutting forward. I sat down on the stool and McGonagall placed the hat on my head. It fell over my eyes.
The hat started talking to me. "Hmmmm," it started. "You are brave.. loyal.. sure as hell intelligent, cunning, ambitious, yes, you have a great future ahead of yourself.. but most important," the hat waited a moment, "you are determined. Perfect for..." I wondered if anyone could hear this.
I quickly got an answer to that when the hat yelled out loud: "SLYTHERIN!" The hat was lifted from my head, I closed my eyes to protect them from the bright light I hadn't seen for a minute or so. I looked around the great hall and saw people clapping. The people from one table, decorated with green and silver, had stood up.
I assumed that was the Slytherin table, and also remembered Sev telling me, so I walked over there. I sat at the end of the table, next to some second- and six years. One had a silver badge shining on their robes. I studied it. It said, "Prefect".
"Hi, I'm Sylvia. I see you're interested in this?" Sylvia grabbed the badge. I didn't say anything, but smiled. "I don't want to stereotype or anything, but, are you muggleborn?" I nodded my head.
Sylvia studied me closely, stopping a little longer at my deep green eyes. "You must be very special, because that rarely happens." I smiled shyly at the compliment.
We talked for a few more minutes and Sylvia told me her pronouns were she/her, she were a pureblood, and she really liked reading. We focused back on the sorting right when, "Lupin, Remus" was being called. I prayed for him not to be sorted into Slytherin. The hat was placed onto his head, and no more than 5 seconds later, the hat yelled to my despise, "SLYTHERIN!"
He put his hands in his pocket and with one of the biggest grins he walked up to me. He waited for the second- year to move and plopped down next to me. "Thought I'd join someone I already know."
I sighed.
I tried following the sorting, but only a few were printed in my head.
I remember "Potter, James" being called. He didn't even need to touch the hat to be called on Gryffindor. The hat hesitated a little when "Pettigrew, Peter", was called, but decided on Gryffindor at the end as well.
Severus joined us at the Slytherin table not too much time later. He tried getting between me and Remus, but Remus didn't budge. Sylvia offered him a spot next to her and he sat on my other side.
Just then I realized how hungry I actually was and I'm very lucky. Tons of food appear on the table. And I'm very happy.
