 Chapter 4

Quietly, I sighed, resting my tired head on my hand. As my Math teacher wrote algebra formula’s on the board, I found I couldn’t focus. Ever since the incident yesterday I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Another tremor happened yesterday, and if it weren’t for the ‘mystery boy’, I wouldn’t be here in class. I would dead, under that Coca Cola machine. But, I’m not. He saved me. I wanted to thank him, but after the tremors stopped, he locked eyes with me for the briefest moment then ran away. I haven’t seen him since, but I want to see him. To thank him, and look into his deep eyes just one more time.

That thought was worthy of a mental slap. I need to focus on school, not him or any guy in general, even though I knew for now, all I could think of was him. i couldn’t sleep last night. The thought of him and almost being crushed kept me up, but now I was feeling exhausted. I let my eyes drift closed before being startled by Mrs. Ketrish.

"Vivianne are you listening to me?!" She asked annoyed.

I opened my eyes just noticing I probably looked asleep. "Y-Yes.."

"Then what did I just say?!" Mrs. Ketrish asked demandingly.

"Math... Stuff...?" I answered in more of a question. I heard a round of muffled snickers from my class. Mrs Ketrish raised an eyebrow disapprovingly and pointed a finger to the door of the classroom, giving an obvious meaning I was to go to the principal's office. Great.

I got up, leaving my things in the room then walked out the door, receiving an ‘ohhhh’ from one kid in the back. Suddenly all eyes were turned on him, and as I stepped out Mrs Ketrish picked up the classroom phone and told the office I was on my way.

"Stupid teacher..." I mumbled as I rolled my eyes, walking down the dirty halls.

"Hey," I heard a male voice behind me.

My eyes narrowed. I knew who it was then turned to see I was correct. "You!" I pointed a finger as I walked up to him, determined to get answers. "Who are you and why do you keep showing up in my life?!"

He held up his hands in defence. "Hey, I saved your life one of those times. Vivianne--"

"How... How do you know my name?!"

"I-- That's not important! What is important is getting you safe!"

"What do you mean getting me safe? I’m not some stupid little china doll that needs protecting! I don't even know you!"

"My name is Trenton, call me Trent, I'm 16, I like sports, and I'm trying to save your life! Now you know me!"

What? Why would he be trying to save me? And from what? The apocalypse came to mind, but I doubted he was stupid enough to fall for all of that. Knowing the office would be expecting me I bit my lip and turned around, and continued to the principal's office.

"Come one, Vivianne!" He pleaded.

I stopped and turned on my heels. "No! I appreciate you saving me yesterday and all but I'm not going with you! I'm not gonna play your little apocalypse game because it’s not real! I'm going to live my normal life again. So, please, leave me be." I turned back the other way and continued walking to the principal's office. In a second,  I felt a hand on my shoulder. HIs touch was like fire to ice. It sent a shiver up my arm and made my stomach flutter. He turned me around and forced me to look into his eyes. They intrigued me again and completely set me off guard. I was dazed, and it was just as rich as the first time.

"Vivianne. You have to trust me. I only want to help you." He paused as if analyzing what he had just said. "And others of course..."

"But why me?" I asked still in a trance from his eyes.

"Because, I need your help. Everyone needs your help."

"I--" Before I could finish I could hear someone yell from the office.

"There’s a freak storm coming! This school is going to be nothing but water in five minutes!" One of the office attendants alerted as she bursted through the halls. "It’s headed this way! It’s the apocalypse!" She was yelling frantically all the way down the halls and when she reached the fire alarm she pulled it but nothing happened. Then she yelled some more and disappeared out of sight.

I suddenly felt the urge to scold her. Not this again. I turned to Trent. "Did you have something to do with this?" I asked.

"How am I going to make a freak storm happen?"

I paused, "I don't know! But you figured out my name so--"

"I hear your friends call you that all the time! Anyway, this is not the time to argue! We gotta get out of here!" Trent grabbed my hand and pulled me to the front door as I struggled to let go with no use. He was too strong. I was just about to yell at him to let me go when he looked at me, pleading. I sighed after giving into his effects and just ran alongside him. When we got outside we just stood and watched as bits and pieces of the school’s walls were chipping off. It seemed as though, the school was shaking, and I thought I could even hear it trembling. The wall at the building foundation cracked open releasing a small stream of water. When another one burst open Trent’s grip tightened as he urgently said, “C’mon let’s go!”

"But wait! You said you wanted to save everyone else too! What about them!? My friends are in there!"

His eyes met mine and with an almost desperate tone he said, "You first. I want to save you first. Please! Trust me! Your teachers are doing all I would be able to do anyways." As he said that, I saw a class beginning to leave though set of doors a little ways from where we were.

I swallowed then and gave in. "Oh... Okay. I trust you.."

And with that, we ran off. He grabbed my hand, and we ran.
