McGonagall Knew

McGonagall knew. Of course she knew. The way the boys would protect Remus even more so once a week every month. It's not like it wasn't obvious. The boys weren't very subtle. The way they would turn up to lessons the next day drained and tired. Every once a while injured, Peter rarely, Sirius sometimes, and James often. That told her their sizes and who fought the werewolf the most.

McGonagall also knew what animals they were. Peter was a rat, most of The Marauders pranks shouldn't have been possible, but they were because they had a rat to do them. Sirius was a dog, that was obvious, Whenever a letter arrived for him at breakfast you could tell it was from his mother because he would leave then a scraggy, black dog would appear on the grounds running around the black lake, then Sirius would return sweaty and out of breath. James was harder to figure out, he was careful, but McGonagall knew him to well. There was subtle hints to it, his reflexes became better, he started wearing his glasses less only when he was reading, but that really only confirmed he was an Animagus like his friends. In the end he let it slip, not openly and no one would have noticed if they weren't looking. It was the night before the full moon, Remus was in the hospital wing, Peter and Sirius with him. James was in the Library he was suppose to be in detention. "I could have let you do this in detention if you turned up." McGonagall said when she found him sitting at the back. "Professor. Sorry, I lot track of time." James said standing and closing his book, "Animagus Meanings, by Falco Aesalon. We studied Animagus in your third year Mr Potter."
"My owls are coming up Professor."
"They do not cover the meaning of each animal. Are you registered James?" James' head snapped up "Don't bother lying."
"No, Professor."
"Ok, what animal are you?"
"You don't know?"
"I am asking aren't I?"
"A stag, Professor."
"You have a detention next week after dinner, don't miss it this time."
"Yes Professor."
