"I know this is tech from the '80s, but can we sharpen the visuals?" Hayward asked as Yelena sat on the chair in front of him, moving the joystick to guide the drone over the town of Greenwood Heights.
"Working on it," Yelena responded.
The drone was finally hovering over the Barnes' residence. Y/N, Aaron, and Mara were all outside the house, watching the drone closely.
"L/N located," she announced.
"Well done," Hayward approved.
"We can't see the drone on the broadcast," Torres spoke from Shuri's side, "Y/N's framing it out of the shot," he gestured at the monitor where the airing sitcom was playing.
"Just like all the jump cuts," Shuri elaborated, "Y/N decides what makes it onto her show and what doesn't,"
"And here we go," Hayward turned back to the visuals of the drone, "You're up,"
"Y/N, This is Agent Yelena Belova," Yelena adjusted her mic, "Can you hear me? I just wanna talk," she continued when Y/N stared with a confused frown, "Nothing else,"
Y/N's eyes started to glow green and she tilted her head to the side, murmuring something to her children.
"No joy," Hayward deadpanned and discreetly signalled an agent in the back.
"Ugh," Yelena tried all the buttons on the control in front of her, "Wait, my controls aren't working. Reconnect patch,"
"Disregard," Hayward overtook her, "Take the shot."
"What?" she turned to glance at him, "Hold on, the drone isn't armed,"
"Take the shot,"
The visuals of the drone went static and finally, the screen blacked out.
Yelena took off her headsets, rising from her seat in horror, "What the hell did you do?!" she glared up at him.
"There's a breach, sir," an agent came running into the tent to inform.
The S.W.O.R.D team and Hayward ran outside towards where the breach was detected. People were panicking and the Hex was sparkling and making crackling noises. Yelena, Torres, and Shuri pushed through the crowd to get a better look.
The Hex was splitting up layer by layer until Y/N finally walked out in her all-green combat suit, dragging the missile behind her.
Shuri had last seen her in that suit in the Battle against Thanos, where she had lost Bucky.
"Found something of yours," Y/N flung the missile forward and it rolled on the ground, coming to a stop at Hayward's foot with green mists circling it, "And I suggest you keep it with yourself."
"The missile was just a precaution," Hayward looked up at her, "You can hardly blame us, Y/N."
Several lasers of rifles were aimed at Y/N's chest by the S.W.O.R.D armed agents, but she didn't seem bothered much by it.
"Oh, I think I can," she replied coolly, "This will be your only warning," she warned, her voice thick with accent, "Stay outta my home," her lower jaw ticked, as though she was trying to pull herself together, "You stay on you're lane of the road, I'll stay on mine,"
"I wish it could be that simple. You are holding hostage of the Winter Soldier," Hayward spoke, "The well-known pawn of HYDRA. A possible threat to the civilians of Greenwood Heights, who also might I add, you're holding against their will."
"Watch your words, Director," Y/N seethed at him; her eyes outlined with a dull, threatening green for a second and she flicked her wrist, gathering green mists in her right palm.
"This is wrong, Y/N," Shuri took a step forward, "I mean, bringing Bucky back to life and holding an entire town of civilians—"
"Well, I'm not the one with the guns, Shuri," Y/N responded coldly, not bothering to spare her a glance.
"You need to stop this," Hayward interrupted, "Or we'll—"
"Or what?" she challenged, her eyes gleaming in rage, "You'll use another weapon on me? It's about time you save yourself some embarrassment."
"And you are the one in control," Yelena strode forward towards her, "Aren't you?"
"Huh," Y/N narrowed her eyes at her, "You're still here,"
"Well I am," she nodded, "And I'm not going until we resolve this, Y/N L/N,"
"Are you calling me by my full name 'cause you possibly got intel about me from my Avengers file and you know everything about me?"
"And your HYDRA files too," she added, noticing how she stiffened for a second, "I know a lot about you, Y/N L/N,"
"You're terribly wrong," the green energy in her right palm increased in size, "And I recommend you leave before you find out,"
"You'll have to make me," Yelena shot back at her, knowing very well that she wouldn't attack her.
Y/N continued to glare at her, twisting the green mist in her hand.
"Y/N," Yelena took this chance to talk to her, "I didn't know the drone was armed. But you know that too, right?" she asked rhetorically, " You let me take care of your son. You let me deliver your daughter. On some level, you know I'm not you're enemy. You trust me. And I want to help you."
"How?" Y/N chuckled sarcastically, the green sphere of energy was still crackling threateningly, "What could you possibly have to offer me?"
She looked so broken, weak, and exhausted. Unlike how cheerful and happy she looked in the sitcoms.
Yelena slowly shook her head with a sigh, desperate to help her, "What do you want?"
"I have what I want," Y/N told firmly, "And no one will ever take it from me again," she snapped her eyes to Hayward, who only frowned at her.
"Y/N," Shuri tried to get her attention.
Y/N raised her hand with the green energy upwards, making the Wakandan princess stop herself. The agents who had their guns pointed at Y/N turned their aim to the Director as they eyes glimmered by being under her control.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Stand down!" Hayward yelled looking around at the mind-controlled guards in fright.
"Y/N!" Yelena called her, raising her voice as she walked past Hayward.
"Stand down!"
With one final look at Yelena and Shuri, Y/N entered back into the Hex and the guards lowered their guns, being freed from Y/N's temporary control.
