Aaron and Mara stood next to each other by the kitchen sink, which was filled to the top with bubbles.

"I don't think she likes the water, Aaron," Mara thought out loud, watching the kitten pat its paw on the sink.

"But we have to get her clean, so Mom will let us keep him," Aaron replied.

The door behind them and two snapped their head towards it in alarm, but they let out a sigh

"How're we doing?" Bucky walked towards his children and peeped into the sink, running his gloved metal finger between its ear and making the cat close its eyes for a second.

"Is Mom here yet?" Mara questioned.

"Mara! Aaron!"

"Your mom's here," Bucky turned to his children with wide eyes.

"Quick," Mara tugged her father's and brother's arm at her sides, making them form a human wall in front of the sink on either side.

The flaps of the doors opened and Y/N walked inside with a 'there you are' look, "Where were you three? I've been looking all around the house," she stopped talking when she noticed that Mara, Bucky, and Aaron were standing very close to each other, "Unless you were too busy forming a human wall. What do you have there?"

But the three didn't move and tried to keep a neutral expression, as much as possible.

"Aaron Grant Barnes," Y/N rested her hands on her hips, "What're you hiding behind your back?"

"Nothing," he visibly cringed, not being able to come up with any excuse.

"Do I have to call you two by your full names too?" she raised her eyebrows at Mara and Bucky, "I don't have the patience for that," she motioned for them to step aside, "Scoot."

And when they did as told, she noticed a cat and turned around with a baffled expression, "What is this feline doing in my kitchen sink?"

"I love you so much," Bucky stated out loud, as though he was reminding her.

"Me too," Aaron added, nodding vigorously.

Mara deadpanned at their antics, "Can we keep her, mom?"

"Well," she cradled the kitten in her arms, "I'm sure her owner's looking for her,"

"There's no collar though," Aaron offered hopefully, to which she nodded in thought.

"Come on, doll," Bucky rested his palms on her lower waist, walking over to stand behind her, "I'm sure the kids would like an extra company,"

"She was crying outside," Mara added dramatically, "Alone."

"Now, Bucky, I thought you were gonna be responsible and tell them that taking care of a living thing is a big responsibility," Y/N turned to her husband.
