The Barnes residence was filled with the cries of the newborn, causing a ruckus in the entire household.
"Come on, Mara," Y/N bounced her weeping daughter in her arms, holding her against her shoulder, "Don't you wanna sleep? I wanna sleep. And I can't sleep if you don't sleep," she walked into the living room where Bucky was playing with Aaron.
"Buck, you were supposed to put him to bed," Y/N bounced in her place with Mara still in her arms.
"Yeah, well, he didn't look like he wanted to sleep so I thought I'd wear him down by letting him play," Bucky turned to face her, lying on the floor with his toddler son face-first on his chest.
"Yes, but now I think he's wide awake."
"Maybe," he winced slightly.
"Mara's so rowdy," Y/N told with a deep breath.
Bucky got up to his feet, cradling Aaron carefully in his arms, "She gets it from you,"
"Maybe," she repeated his words with a small smirk.
"Oh, shall I have this dance, darling?" He took small steps towards his wife, bouncing the toddler in his arms.
"Oh, you shall," Y/N chuckled, taking a step closer and pressed a kiss on top of each of her kids' head, "It's almost like we're on a date,"
"Keep it down, guys. I was about to get my leg over,"
Y/N grinned at his silly antics, "Buck,"
"Hmm?"
"Could you grab their binkies?"
"Yeah, just a second, doll," Bucky laid Aaron in the crib and strode out of the room to fetch the said item.
The two children immediately began to cry out loud, spiking Y/N's already growing anxiety.
"Now, I know parents aren't supposed to take shortcuts, but I think this situation calls for one, right?" Y/N chuckled nervously, "So, go to sleep, my babies," she pointed her finger at each of the cribs, a whooshing echoes throughout the room.
But the babies continue to cry and Y/N let out a frustrated sigh, "And go to sleep," she tried again, sending another whoosh of her power at them, but nothing happens.
The babies giggle at their mother's struggle. "Well, I don't think it's very funny," Y/N rested her hands on her hip in mock anger, "Why won't you do what I want?"
"Got them," Bucky entered the room with the binkies and tossed them at her. Y/N levitated those to each of her babies' crib and placed them in their mouths.
"You look worn out," the super-soldier wrapped his arms around his wife's waist, pulled her back flush against his back, and placed a chaste kiss on her shoulder.
"Well, that's because I am," she sighed, leaning into his touch, before she straightened up, "Wait, I think it's—"
The babies let out a shrieking cry, spitting out the binkies and successfully startling their parents.
"Buck,"
"Hm?"
"What are we doing wrong?"
He pulled her closer into the hug, "Oh, don't worry, doll," he kissed her temple, "We'll figure it out. Maybe we all need more time to get to know one another."
"Or maybe we just need some help."
On cue, the doorbell rang and Amy strode into the hall, "Hey kids!" She was wearing a rather bright, colourful combination of layered clothes and her frizzy hair tied up into a half-updo, with a headband resting on the top of her forehead.
Bucky rushed over to the couch and quickly slipped on his jacket that was lying on it. He shoved his metal fist into the pocket, making sure that Amy had her back to him.
"Oh, Amy!" Y/N smiled at her in welcome.
"Oh, I was just on my way to Jazzercise when I heard your new little bundles of joy were on a sleep strike," Amy explained.
"Oh, Who told you that?" Bucky frowned at her.
"Uh, my ears," Amy stated with a chuckle, "Anyway, Auntie Amy is here and I've got a couple of tricks up my sleeve!"
"Oh, Amy, you're a lifesaver," Y/N let out a breath of relief.
"Aw," Amy put a hand over her heart in a sentimental way, and smiled at the compliment.
" But be careful of their belly buttons and remember to support their heads," Bucky added, being very protective of his children, "and when was the last time you washed— Actually, you know what? It would be—Just— Maybe we better not,"
The babies continued to cry loudly. "Um— Uh—Do you want me to take that again?" Amy turned to Y/N with a flustered and fearful look.
A frown fell upon Y/N's expression, "I'm sorry?"
"You want me to hold the babies," she replied, "Should we just take it from the top?"
"What?" Bucky glanced wearily between the two ladies.
Y/N scoffed lightly, "Don't be silly, Amy. Bucky, let's—let's let Amy give it a try,"
"Fussy babies, meet buns of steel. We dare you to stay awake," Amy laughed and Y/N gave her an amused look. She proceeded to rock the cradles gently as Bucky tugged his wife over to the corner of the room.
"Y/N, what was all that about?"
"What was what?" she retorted back.
"'What was what?' " he repeated in disbelief, "That, that with Amy. Just now."
"Well, I think she just got confused for a moment. She's fine now."
"But what she said, the way she looked at you—"
"How did she look at me?"
"Well, I didn't—" Bucky stops mid sentence, as Amy walked into the room, holding a small spray bottle of a purple liquid.
"Lavender! It's supposed to have a calming effect, James," she explained seeing the man's nervous expression, "William sprays it on me every night. But there's no taming this tiger," she wiggled her hips.
"It's so strange," Bucky muttered, watching Amy walk into the kitchen.
"That's not fair. It's not Amy's fault that she has an unusually high libido," Y/N remarked in thought.
"Y/N," Bucky caught her attention this time, "Did you really not see what I saw?"
There was a thud from the kitchen that stopped their conversation. Amy walked back into the room, "Oh. Don't mind me. I'm just looking for your dark liquor!"
"What?" Bucky raised his eyebrows in incredulity.
"Not for me. For the kids. What kind of babysitter do you think I am? I'm just gonna go and check in there," she pointed to a cabinet in the other corner of the room.
Bucky looked at Y/N with a concerned expression, but she doesn't return the gesture and had a sympathetic face, "Honey, the kids haven't slept in days. Mara's cries is just triggering Aaron's. You and I both need a break and Amy is just being neighbourly, that's all."
He noticed that the crying had stopped, "Do you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"Absolute silence,"
Realization struck Y/N, "They finally fell asleep,"
They walk to the cribs where they assumed Amy put the children, "Where are the kids?"
"Mama? Dada?"
Y/N and Bucky slowly turn around to see their kids now grown up significantly. Aaron was a head taller than his sister, who only reached till his shoulder and had blue eyes and H/C hair; a perfect combination of her parents.
Amy sighed, seated on the kitchen counter, "Kids, she laughed, "You can't control 'em. No matter how hard you try!"
"Well, hi!" Y/N crouched down to her children's level as Bucky did the same, and the two welcomed their children with open arms and wide smiles.◦◦,'°.✽✦✽.◦.✽✦✽.°',◦◦
