Ava sat at her computer, glaring at the title of the paper she was writing. Mrs. Smith thought it would be a great idea as a final for the class to write about the biggest adventure of their lives. Ava's biggest adventure was being able to go to school everyday and not drive herself insane, note the sarcasm. A groan of annoyance left her as she spun around in her computer chair.
"Stupid Mrs. Smith and her stupid finals. Just let me graduate already," Ava muttered.
Her hazel eyes gazed over at her alarm clock and saw it was only eight at night. Ava stood then walked downstairs to her kitchen to reveal her mother who was working on her computer.
"Hey mom," Ava greeted, grabbing a small bag of chips from the pantry.
"Hi honey. How was school?" The tired looking, middle aged mother asked.
"It was decent," Ava muttered, ripping the bag open. "Mrs. Smith gave a paper assignment for finals. I have to write about my biggest adventure but I don't have one."
The brunette sat down at the table and ate a chip. The barbeque flavored chip cured her craving and she moaned in delight. Her mother, Annette, smiled at her daughter before shaking her head.
"Maybe you just haven't found you're big adventure yet sweetie," Annette pointed out. Ava's eyes widened before looking at her mother. Annette did have a point. "Maybe step outside to find you're purpose. Then you'll find you're greatest adventure honey."
Ava watched her mother leave the kitchen then she gazed at her hands. How am I supposed to find my purpose? She thought to herself. No longer having an appetite, Ava put her chips away before heading upstairs for bed.

"Ava, have you started your paper?" Mrs. Smith asked in a fragile voice, being in her early seventies.
"No ma'am. My mom said I need to discover my purpose before I can find my greatest adventure," the girl admitted to the teacher.
Mrs. Smith smiled then let out a light chuckle. She placed her bony, wrinkled hand on the girl's shoulder before leading her to a special book she allowed no one to touch.
"This book was passed down in my family for many generations Miss Ava," Mrs. Smith said. "My mother said one day, I'll need to give this to a child who seems to have not found their purpose. And it seems I've finally found that child. Take it. But use the book wisely my dear."
Mrs. Smith pushed the girl out of the classroom where Ava's friend Brittany was waiting. Brittany was a tall, curly blonde haired girl with blue eyes. Brittany's eyes trailed to the tattered leather book with golden aged pages.
"No way. Mrs. Smith gave you that old thing?" Brittany asked.
"Yeah Britt..... I don't know why though," the brunette mumbled.
"I want you to tell me what's in the book once you read it! I need to know what the old lady has been hiding from us all these years," the blonde cackled.
Ava walked to her old beater car and sat the book in the passenger seat. Her eyes were glued to it, a somewhat familiar feeling about it crept through her being. It scared her to be honest. Ava took her jacket off and covered the book with it. She pulled out of the parking lot, wanting to get home as fast as she could so she can put the old thing away. The drive home seemed longer than usual. Once in the driveway, she grabbed the covered book and ran inside with it.

"Why am I doing this?" Ava asked aloud, peeling the old book open.
Her hand gently grazed the old paper, a language her eyes didn't know, but her mind did, covered the paper. As she read the book, she got a sinking feeling, like she wasn't where she was supposed to be in this life. The book was a spell book in some medieval fantasy language. It couldn't be real.... Could it? Ava thought as she lifted the old book into her arms. One page had an art depiction of a beautiful place. It gave the brunette a warm feeling, like it was home. On the next page was telling of the place.
"The kingdom of Sasione is a kingdom like no other. It was a kingdom that was formed many eons ago as a place of peace. It was founded by a Queen who led every race to freedom. She was a loved and cherished soul by the people of Sasione. One day, she was poisoned by her jealous step sister," Ava read. "The kingdom broke out in war, blaming one another for the death of their beloved queen. The kingdom was broken due to the hatred and jealously of one woman. The step sister ruled over the humans of the kingdom with an iron fist, knowing it would be the same through her linage. Every queen and king born under her were ruthless and hated anything and everything but humans. The land was plunged into war once more. A light shown through when a prophet foresaw the end of the evil growing over the kingdom. A child from another realm will come and save the world!?"
Ava heard a crack of thunder, making her jump. She flicked on her bedside lamp, her heart racing. She felt adrenaline rush through her. Suddenly, her mother opened the door.
"Ava it's three in the morning. Why are you awake?" Annette asked her child.
"Sorry mom. I was just caught up in my new book is all," the girl said, hugging it close to her chest. "It's a really good one."
Ava couldn't believe that she had been reading all that time. It boggled her mind as she gave her mother a sorry look.
