Kai POV

"No!" I say immediately. "Absolutely not!"

"Kaito, you're technically still engaged to her. May I remind you that it was your choice to propose to her." Cinder reminds me.

"How do you know that?"

A small rectangle came up in the bottom left of the screen. A recording began playing of my proposal to Levena.

"And this was recorded, why?"

Wolf spoke up "Levena's proof of your proposal."

I groan. "I never should have given in to her."

"Quite right." Thorne says. He chuckles "Selene about short circuited herself when she found out." He earned himself an elbow to the ribs.

"Did not. You dont even know what it feels like to be shorted out." Cinder exclaims.

"Neither do you!" Wolf fired at her.

Cinder's hand came up to rub her head. "Erm.. About that. When the Commonwealth came to get me for the draft, they kinda zapped me."

"Ooh ouch.." A female voice comes from the background. Probably Iko, Cinder's best friend android.

"Yeah, ouch." Cinder rubbed her left wrist where she used to play with her gloves. It looked red, like she had used her wrist to hide stress a lot, lately.

"Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to go talk to Levena personally. She has a blocker on her, similar to mine, so there is little chance of her manipulating me." Cinder says.

"Little?" Vargas asks. "Is there still a chance?"

"Yes, of course. I had one and was still able to use small amounts of glamour, which I accidentally displayed a few times, including at the ball. Of course the chances are much more slim considering my power is much stronger than that of Levena's."

The image of Cinder in the muddy, torn dress and the tiny foot skittering across the ground flashed through my mind. I remembered trying to look at her face and, well, like I said it was hard. And it hurt.

I must have visibly flinched.

"Your majesty," Governor-General Williams says "Why are you wearing a veil?" He asks like he suddenly just noticed.

"According to some people, I'm hard to look at." Selene says. I can almost detect her voice choking in pain.

"Good luck with Levena, Selene" Vargas wishes.

"Thank you. Goodbye."

Milliseconds before the screen fades away, Cinder collapses in Thorne's arms, sobs racking her body.
