Chapter 8
Cinder POV
I was in shock to say the least. Levana's story was truly heartbreaking, and I couldn't bring myself to be like those cruel people and cause her any more pain.
One by one, the Earthen leaders came into view. My cabinet stood around me, all trying to get a peek at the paper in my hands. The Lunar news reporters bustled around the courtyard to catch a video of my announcement.
The last face to blink to life on my screen was none other than Emperor Kaito's.
Silence engulfed me. They were all waiting on me, my voice.
My eyes traveled down the document one last time, checking to make sure my eyes weren't lying to me.
I held out in front of me and turned to face it towards the cameras. "Ladies and Gentlemen and other species," the Earthens looked at each other, "I would like to announce that my visit with Her Majesty Levana was successful..."
I paused.Here it goes.
"And I, Selene Channary Jannali Blackburn, would like to deem it an honor to accept the role of office, as Levana has signed her declination of further hold on the role as Queen."
The same deafening silence threatened to choke me;
it didn't last for long.
The loudest cheer I'd ever heard erupted from all sides of Luna. It was a roar that would likely cause brain damage to an Earthen if exposed to even a fraction of that volume.Thorne's arms wrapped around my waist and spun me around several times. I held on and cheered with everyone. My long dress spun around Thorne's waist as he put me back on my feet. "I told you everything would be OK." He said. I nodded and hugged him with all my strength.
I turned back to the crowd. "All Hail Selene!" Thorne shouted.
"All hail Selene!" The crowd repeated and knelt before me. I turned around and saw the whole crew on a knee except two people. Thorne, of course, and my miracle.

That night, the biggest celebration in the history of Luna was put on. I personally attended and met everyone Winter said I needed to. The Earthen leaders were watching, but I tried not to let that bother me. I went about my business. There were many requests to dance, but I kindly declined each of them. I could dance, but hadn't with someone since that catastrophe at the Commonwealth. The morning after, I climbed out of bed feeling great, that is until I realized I was nearly late to a Conference. I threw on a similar dress to the one I wore last night. Maybe it was the same one, though I couldn't be sure. My hair fell into place and a little bit of simple makeup put it all together. You may wonder why I care? Well, if I didn't bother to fix myself, at least a little, Cress would have a regular fit.
I walked in the conference room. Everyone was online and looking at me. Cress nodded to me with approval. I must have done a decent job. The men stood and bowed. I'd told them earlier not to do that. Perhaps Thorne thought it would be funny to annoy me from now on. I sent him my best glare and got a wink in return.
"Captain, I believe you have disobeyed my orders."
He shrugged "Whoopsies?"
I shook my head and sat down. Wolf stood at my side as usual. "How are you, Selene?" He asked.
"I'm great, actually." I respond.
Kai sits forward, drawing attention to himself. "Your majesty, the Eastern Commonwealth congratulates you and is excited for your rise to office."
I smile at him "Thank you Kaito. Your enthusiasm is appreciated."
I notice his expression change when I used his full name. A little flashback came to me of the moment he told me to call him just Kai. A little emotional bubble burst inside of me. Thorne gave me a look and I had to tell my system not to create a blush. Oh stars, he knows.
I spoke with each of the leaders briefly. We discussed the changes that would be made between our planets and began discussing my meeting with Levena when we were so rudely interrupted. A Lunar Operative burst in the door and slammed in behind him.
"Your majesty, it's the agency. They're coming for you!""W-what? What for? I've followed the laws as closely as possible."
"They found out about the meeting. There were no guards in the cell with you. Section 8 paragraph B states that all members of the royal family must be accompanied by a guard. Their accusation also includes hands on activity with a royal prisoner."
I searched the laws in the matter of seconds. The words burned into my brain like a hot skillet.
I wheeled my chair over to a holographic computer and opened the cameras, searching for the men's location. A small group was crouched in an alley along the side of a market area right outside the castle. I pressed a button in the top right that allowed the Earthens to watch as well
"For your safety, I suggest you evacuate." The operative pressured.
"Where will we go?" Thorne asked. "They're here to kill Selene. A few miles down the tubes isn't going to be any safer.
The operative looked nervous "I'm sorry, but the best place would be-"
"Earth." My attention turned back to the forgotten conference. "The Eastern Commonwealth." Kai said with confidence.
