Cinder POV

I sat in Kai's arms for about an hour. We didn't talk, we both just sat and thought about everything that would be changing.

"I want to make something clear," Kai whispered.

I sleepily turned towards his face and nodded.

"I'm not doing this for government purposes. I really do want to be with you. And I'm not doing it just for an heir."

I stared at the corner of my retina display for a few seconds. My little orange liar detector stayed silent.

"Do you want an heir?" I asked, "Because I don't intend to have one at least until I'm an adult."

"I do want a child, more than anything," I scrunched my face at him, "But I will be patient. Even if this doesn't work out between us, I will never push a woman to have a child. That's simply cruel."

I nodded in approval. Kai was staring at me. I was worried until he leaned forward and kissed my cheek, my nose, and finally my lips. I immediately readjusted myself so I was completely facing him. I felt like I was in a lovely dream and I would wake up later only to realize it was a lie.

But this wasn't a lie. It was really happening. I was kissing Emperor Kai, every girl's fantasy.

He cradled me like his life depended on it. Soon, I had to pull away.

"Kai, we shouldn't be doing this. We need to take it slower. I'm sure courting takes longer than an hour. Besides, I haven't even accepted you yet." I smiled.

Kai frowned. "You know you're scaring me, right?"

I shrug. I hop up off of his lap and take my robe back off.

"I'm going to bed. I suggest you get out because Thorne invades my room every morning. No point in raising suspicion."

Jealously is written all over his face. I internally smile.

"Oh, ok. I'll see you at breakfast?" Kai whispered.

"Probably," I walk him to the door and open it, "Night!"

He kisses my hand and walks down the hall. A shadow flickers in the tall window, but that's impossible. We're three stories up!

I shut my door and turn the lights back off.

"CINDER, PRINCESS!" Thorne shouts.

"Cadet, shut up." I growl.

"Awe! Come on! I'm hungry. Lets go get us some breakfast!" He sits in the corner and pouts.

I sigh, "Could you go find Cress? She wanted to do my makeup, and I guess today is as good as ever."

He bounces out. Cress comes running in, squealing, "YES! I can do your makeup!!"

Iko rolls in behind her, "You're going to be STUNNING!"

I sigh and prepare to be tortured, but it would be fine. I wanted to make Kai melt into a puddle for playing a dirty trick like last night's on me.

Iko pulled dress after dress out of my closet. I walked in myself and pulled out a dark blue one that had a diagonal strap with triangular cutouts along the right side.

"What about this?" Iko squealed and Cress nodded. I slipped it on. It was perfect! The front was a little revealing, but nothing too major, and the back was just stunning. What little curves I have were shown off proudly.
