Leonardo Marcé Sovrano
"Bambino! What are you doing? Look at you!" Mama's voice rang. She was yelling in shock, but there was a smile on her face when I turned to her covered in mud from playing outside with my friends.
"We got a little dirty. It was Stefano's fault," I grinned knowing she wouldn't believe me. She made a ticking sound at me as she waived her finger in my direction stalking forward with her long legs cutting the distance short in only a few steps.
"Oh no you don't, mister! This is looking like it was all you," She smiled at me just lightly, and my eyes widened as she reached for me. I tried to run but she grabbed me in her arms and I screamed out loud as she tickled me. I was covered in dirt and grass from rolling down the hillside with Sienna and Stefano and their little sister Lina. We'd rolled on and on until I heard Papa calling my name loudly with Mr.Leone echoing behind him in the distance. All of us became scared because they'd already told us not to get too dirty before lunch, but the hills were screaming at us to come and roll down them. It was fun, too!
As soon as the call of my name got closer, Lina pushed me towards the house and under the cliff pass were from up above they wouldn't have seen us. I knew to pick it up and run to safety, and safety today was with my mother who had stayed with me today at my request.
As she tickled me uncaring of the dirt covering my body, I was all the more glad that I'd convinced her to stay with me. She didn't do that much because her and my dad didn't get along well. He was really mean to me, and definitely to her. However, Papa and Gia always smiled the most when she was around with me. We got to watch movies and walk together. It was the best time ever, and I clung to her screaming in joy as she eased her attack.
"Mama!" I screamed and she laughed.
"My Bambino!" She responded and I frowned.
"I am not a baby!" I groaned, and she pulled back from me with her teeth brightly visible as she grabbed my cheeks between the palms of her hands and squeezed making me whine.
"You're right. To the world you are a dashing young boy. However, you'll always be my bambino. My forever one and only," She grinned, and I fell into her giving her a tight hug that she retuned.
"Are you going to turn me over to Papa?" I questioned, and she laugh as she picked me up off the ground.
"Turn you over? What in the world has he been letting you watch?" She asked, and I shrugged.
"He told me I can't tell you. He made me swear," I said before zipping my lips. She sighed as we walked and I looked up at her smiling down at me with the prettiest green eyes that looked like they were almost blue some days or close to clashing with brown on others. Today was one of the others, and it was the day her eyes looked almost similar to my own. Against her black bangs that fell just atop them covering her eyebrows, her face always made me feel calm. It always made me feel the most loved. My mom was the best.
