You knew they weren't true, that Diaval, Maleficent of Aurora would never say those kinds of things. They cared about you, and they wanted only the best for you.
...right?
Your doubting had urged you to talk to Diaval in the first place, as dwelling in your doubts just caused you feeling worse, and Diaval was happy to help.
So there you were again, Diaval looking up to you with a questioning look. He always looked so tired with his messy bedhair and droopy eyes that you always felt guilty about waking him up, but he never complained.
"Can I sleep with you?" you muttered and hugged yourself. "I just... I need someone by my side."
Diaval furrowed his eyebrows upon hearing this, but lifted his blanket a bit so you could snuggle beside him.
"Nightmares again?" he asked, and you shuddered while nodding and moving closer to him, having him hug you against his body.
"It was the same dream again." you muttered and tried to focus on Diaval's steady heartbeat. "I don't know why I keep seeing it."
Diaval sighed, rubbing your back with his hand. "It's going to be alright, Y/N."
His words always reassured you. He put them in a certain way, spoke in a certain tone of voice, did things to emphasize his point - and that's what you needed. You felt like you could always rely on him. He was a raven in his true form, but he had adapted to the human world perfectly, finding friendship within you, maybe even a budding love.
"You're the first person who has understood me. Like really understood me. I always feel like I can tell you anything and you wouldn't judge." you muttered as you slowly started drifting to sleep again. "I love you, Diaval."
He smiled, knowing it was said practically in a dream and you probably didn't even realize saying it - but it warmed his heart. He loved you too, and always had.
"Good night, Y/N." he whispered, pressing a soft kiss on the top of your head and let himself fall to sleep again too.
