IMAGINE HAVING DEPRESSION AND DIAVAL COMFORTING YOU.

Your depression was becoming worse. You could feel it knotting itself around you and slowly suffocating you.

Depression is an evil thing. It tries to convince you not to tell anyone, to not seek help. "No one will care" it whispers in your ear. And you don't tell about your wellbeing to anyone. When others are around, you pretend everything is okay, but when you're alone... the depression welcomes you back to its arms.

Diaval was the love of your life, but Depression had told you that if you told about your feelings to him, he would abandon you. He would be ashamed of you. But you didn't have to tell for Diaval to notice it, he had known you long enough to pick up on all the signs. He knew you suffered from depression, and he had seen your puffed, red eyes as you went past him. You had tried to be quick so he wouldn't notice, you had tried your everything so he wouldn't notice. But Diaval had been in a bird form most of his life, so his sight was sharper than with any human.

He knew you had a rough time.

So he asked to speak with you one night, and you reluctantly let him into your room, trying to dry your tears and all the signs you've been crying, and forced a smile on your face, which quickly transformed into a genuine one as you looked at Diaval looking at you.

"Isn't it a beautiful night, my love?" you chuckled and looked towards your balcony. "Care to join me?"

Diaval smiled at you half-heartedly and nodded, following you to the balcony. He wrapped his arms around you from behind and nuzzled his face against your neck.

"You're right, it's a beautiful night." he whispered to your ear and you sighed, taking a hold of his hands wrapped around your waist.

He didn't have to say anything about knowing your depression had gotten worse, he liked to act rather than say it with you. Showering you in affection and showing how much he loves you, and the grip Depression had on you loosened a bit, trying to object that you should pull away, to tell Diaval you're not worth him, break up with him. But the way Diaval held you and showed his affection to you spoke on its own, shutting Depression up and you could enjoy that moment.

He cared about you, more than anything in the whole world. He was willing to stand with you through all the storms and difficulties, and you were grateful for that. Depression got a leverage at times, climbing up to your head screaming you're worthless, but Diaval always managed to remind you that you were anything but worthless. He loved you, and always would. And he would show it over and over again until you finally truly believed it.

All those nights he had stayed up to guard your sleep from nightmares, laid beside you, held you as you cried, when he had stroked your head when you laid in bed, unwilling to talk and muttering sweet things that eventually made you look up at him and smile in gratitude - all that was slowly convincing you that you weren't as worthless Depression always claimed you to be.

You would win that fight. Diaval made you believe that.
