IMAGINE BEING EUGENE'S LITTLE SISTER AND HIM BEING PROTECTIVE OF YOU.

Eugene knew you could handle yourself, but he still wanted to ensure nothing happened to you. You were his little sister and he wanted to be sure you would be safe at all times. He couldn't stand the thought that you would get hurt - physically or emotionally, and he did everything he could to protect you. Somebody harassed you in town in any way? Consider them being glared by Eugene and shielding you every time you came across them for the next year. Your friend hurt you with their words? Eugene gives them a little talk which causes them coming back to apologize - I mean if their words weren't something which got you crying for days, then you'll get Eugene acting the same way as he would if somebody harassed you, and he's very wary of them even if they came to apologize and tells you to think twice before forgiving them - he just doesn't want to see his little sister hurt and crying because someone hurt them.

If you developed a crush on someone, Eugene wanted to make sure your partner would really be someone who would be kind, affectionate and loyal to you and only you. And if there would be even a hint of them having someone else, he would threaten them not to hurt you by lying or they would have to face him. He might make a mistake with threatening your partner, but he can't help it. You've lost so much together and he was a thief mainly to make you have a decent life. You might feel like he's annoying for being so overprotective but he does it out of love.

And who knows, that might even save you one day.
