“Nathan’s here,” Graham stated and I let out a breath. I’d been waiting for ages to tell him. I would have done it over the phone but I wouldn’t exactly see the look on his face that way. Greta was still next to me, just silently sitting and being bombarded with questions from my mother.
I run to the door, leaving Emma and Franklin in mom’s care.
“Finally,” I say exasperatedly. “Where have you been?” I put my hands on my hips just to annoy him yet he still wears that annoyed and sad face. “Are you okay?”
“I need to talk to you.” He says urgently, grabbing my arms. I see his mom get out from his car along with Oreo. She too looked troubled.
“What is it?” I ask.
“A couple of months ago, my dad’s lawyers came to see me,” his voice was in a whisper now and I also noticed Gareth had returned. “And they said that my dad’s will was a fake, the one where he left me and my mom everything.”
“What?” I literally shout. What crap is this about the will being fake?
“Just listen. So now I have nothing,” he sadly let go of me, “it now belongs to Alan.”
I blinked. I don’t know how many times but this is some kind of nightmare. Alan, of course he’s behind this. Nathan can’t just give in like this.
“But, but, that’s not fair. This is all Alan’s fault. Isn’t he in London?” I can’t keep the panic out of my voice and I hear shuffling of feet behind me.
“I can’t do anything. I’m just worried about the house, we’ve lost that too.” He says and then everything is clouded in my mind. There was something I had to do, something to tell him.
“Yes,” the money and house I’d inherited. “It’s okay, it’s fine. My Great-great aunt left me a house, right in Stone Valley. She put me in her will and left me money too. We’ll be fine.” I smile at him, hoping to lift his spirits. Not all was lost.
He looked thoughtful at first and then looked quizzically behind me. I followed his gaze to Greta who was doing the best not to make eye contact with Gareth. I dismissed it and grabbed Nathan’s arm into the house. Everyone followed but I dragged Nathan upstairs and into my old room.
“Who’s that girl? And you inherited a house?” were his first questions.
“That girl is Greta. She came here today from Chicago to tell me of my aunt’s will. But she’ll be staying with us too; poor girl probably doesn’t have anyone. But yeah, she also left me money. Alan can have the house, we’ll be fine.”
