-Isabelle Blake-
Early next morning, whilst feeding Emma, I got a text off Caroline telling me that Jackson and Nathan had left for England in the night. I let my phone drop to the desk without replying and massaged my temples. Of course he left for England, he said he would but I didn’t think for a minute he’d leave the night he told me.
I’d started feeding Emma solid foods and mixed some porridge into a bowl. I left her in her crib under Greta’s watchful eye until I returned. Graham and Franklin were already in school and now I had no idea what to do. Caroline suggested a girls night in, she even said she’d consider Ruby as an exception but I’m not in the mood for both a cheesy night in and a day where I know Caroline and Ruby will end up arguing.
Greta has pretty much sorted everything out for me. The money, house, everyone’s fine apart from my own internal conflict. Shame she couldn’t fix that by punching numbers into a calculator like she did when paying the gardeners.
Everyone had settled in, even Graham who has had round his ‘girlfriend’, although he won’t admit it and calls her a ‘study partner’.
I put the ceramic bowl down on the pure white, marble table and tickled Emma who was drifting off. I sat on the couch with my legs crossed and my hair coming undone from my bun.
I couldn’t let Emma go to sleep hungry and she’d been sleeping a lot lately which I didn’t mind because I didn’t have to get up at night. She gurgled and spit rolled down the side of her mouth. I smiled and grabbed a napkin to wipe the drool away.
I wish Nathan would spend more time with her like he did with Franklin and I don’t believe this whole ‘first born is loved more’ thing. That’s just ridiculous but I want Emma to grow up with Nathan around once he’d admitted defeat or realised that this life (even with Alan down the road) is better than none.
I heard the front door open and then close because Gareth had let himself in. Alison was enjoying a day off after the whole week and nothing would make her come over on her day off.
Greta immediately smiled at Gareth’s appearance and even said hello to him which he replied shyly to. He didn’t stick around long and left with an incoherent mumble. In order to amuse myself, I directly accused Greta of liking Gareth which was quite different for me, and quite bold.
“You like Gareth, don’t you?” I smirked and spoon fed small amount of porridge into Emma’s mouth that she was refusing eat. She’d spurt it right back out for me to wipe away.
“No, of course not,” She laughed nervously and I shook my head.
