Isabelle Blake
My eyes shot open and I rolled around in my bed at the sound of the door slowly creaking open. Someone was breaking in and I had no weapon in reach. I saw my umbrella a couple of feet away leaning against the wall with stacks of books surrounding it. It’d been weeks since we’d moved and everyone else was settled but I still hadn’t managed to feel at home yet.
I tried to contemplate out fast I could run to the umbrella and attack the burglar. I could see a dark shadow moving swiftly around and walking towards my bed. I’m dead, I just know it. I have to scream, it’s my last option.
I shot up to yell at the top of my lungs but hands were clamped over my mouth. I squirmed around until I caught hints of that familiar aroma. Strawberries.
“Don’t Scream!” He said in an urgent whisper and only then did my body relax. I pried his hands off my mouth and turned my bedside lamp on.
Of course it was Nathan.
“What are you doing here? And how did you get in?” I snarl at him, crossing my arms to get across my frustration. I look at the digital clock which tells me it’s 3.54 in the morning. What is he doing here at this ungodly hour?
“I missed you and Alison let me in,” he shrugs and sits down next to me.
“What’s Alison doing up now?”
“Ahh,” he scratched his head as if he’d spilled a secret, “I guess you still didn’t know about Alison’s midnight feasts?”
I cock up and eyebrow and let it slide. I didn’t want to know about Alison’s weird habits but why Nathan was creeping around the house at three in the morning.
“Okay, what are you really doing here?” Missing me was just an excuse; I know he’s up to something.
“What? Like I said, I wanted to see you? Am I not allowed to se my own wife?” He questions disbelievingly.
“If you wanted to see me you wouldn’t have sneaked in in the middle of the night.” I keep my arms folded and shake my head – Nice try Nathan.
“Fine,” He gets up helps himself to my mountain dew I had on my desk for when I got thirsty during the night.
I pulled the comforter off me and got out of bed. “So?” I urged.
