The best thing about waking up in the morning was finding Nathan snoring beside me. The comforter was half on the floor and barely covering Nathan or me but I smiled and covered him up.
I half expected Nathan to wake up early and leave like he usually has been but not today. The baby monitor beeped and I could hear to Emma’s little gurgles and squeals.
I got up, grabbed a towel and robe and walked to the bathroom for a shower. I coated my hair in apricot smelling shampoo that reminded me of autumn and the orange and yellows leaves cluttered outside.
I didn’t want to keep Emma waiting and got out the shower and dressed under ten minutes with damp hair. I let it air dry as I fed Emma her solid food which she was miraculously eating.
I could here Valerie and Mom out in the garden with a tray of tea and toast and the sound of their voices travelling to the kitchen. I felt happy. Things had been sorted out with Seth, Dad’s business was fluctuating, and Graham seems to be fine though he doesn’t say much and Nathan was acting normal, though I wish he’d just come stay with us.
I finished up cleaning Emma’s mess as a few maids worked around me and made breakfast. Nathan appeared with a sleepy Franklin who was refusing to go to school.
His shirt wasn’t tucked; his thin blonde hair dishevelled and shoe laces undone. I gave Emma to Nathan and fixed him up before letting him go yet he put up a fight.
“I funnily miss having to put up with his morning tantrums,” Nathan yawned and pouring himself some black coffee. “Really? You miss it? I’d do anything for him to stop. But if you miss it so much you could just live with us. I don’t get why you’re being so reluctant.”
“You know why. Right now, Alan is clueless you’re here. Please, I just need a little time. I’ll come to this house soon.” He drank the last off his coffee and grabbed his jacket. His lips brushed my cheek and he mumbled a goodbye. Well there goes my happy mood.

I decided to get my mind off everything and take Emma to the park. Fresh air would do her good. Caroline called in sick into her job but she was fine. She insisted on coming to the park and sitting on the swings surrounded by toddlers.
“Jackson’s acting weird too. We hardly talk and he’s always with Nathan. I mean, I know they’re friend but I never knew they were that close.” Caroline said and kicked up to go higher on the swings.
I was crouched down, holding up Emma on two feet and helping her walk; however, she kept kicking her legs up and giggled in delight. I cuddled her close and held her to my chest, kissing her wispy blonde hair.
“I need to find out what’s happening. I don’t like this. Nathan is so distant and it’s the same with Jackson. He’s changing. This whole switch must have affected him badly but he won’t say.” I said and sat glumly on a swing once Emma was in her stroller.
“Belle? Caroline?” Said someone and we looked up. I was greeted with Seth’s gleaming smile and he was dressed in a dark grey suit. Both hands were in his pocket and the sun reflected in his grey, stormy eyes making them almost transparent. “Fancy meeting you guys here.” He said and looked mostly as Caroline who was enjoying the swings a little too much.
“I bought Emma along.” I answered and remained still. He waved at Emma who started crying at the sight of him. “I’m sorry, I didn-“
“It’s fine. She cries at the most unusual times.” I say and calm her down.
“Oh, hey, is that the time? I better get to work.” Caroline says and bolts before I can stop the lying witch.
“So, Belle, would you like to join me for some coffee and possibly keep it in the cup rather than down my front?” He smirked and I helplessly did too.
“That would be nice,” I agreed and followed him.

“Caroline has been calling me a billion times. Dude, please say we’re doing nothing stupid like breaking and entering tonight, I promised I’d take her to dinner so she’s not suspicious.” Jackson says and shakes his head as he puts his phone on silent.
“No, nothing dangerous tonight. What do we know so far?” I asked with the pen lid in my mouth as I wrote it all down.
“Alan worked with Wade at some point. We also know that guy in the suit works for Alan. Alan hasn’t paid Wade yet and told suit man but suit man seems to be on Team Alan right now.”
“But we don’t know what Wade did for Alan which I need to know. This could do with Dad’s will and we need proof.”
“Dude, we’ll get proof. But you need to relax. Girls are getting restless and if you don’t start acting normal, Belle will suspect.” Jackson said and scrunched up my piece of paper and threw it in the garbage.
I exhaled and ran my hand down my face. “You’re right. Y’know what? I’ll take Belle to dinner too. I need…I…I just need to slow down with this. Maybe the wills are correct. Maybe there’s nothing wrong but if there is. I’ll find out.”
