I just stood there, staring at myself in the mirror but my thoughts wandered off elsewhere. I felt ashamed and grimaced at my own reflection. I slowly glided my finger tips over the mirror and the heat from my fingers left marks behind them. I remembered clearly what happened at that engagement party even if it was a day ago. I was glad that Nathan would be home because right now I wanted him and to curl up in his arms.

I walked over to my bed and sat down. The bed shifted and creaked from my weight as I listened to Emma’s steady breathing through the baby monitor. Franklin put up a fight before he went  to sleep but in the end, exhaustion won and he nodded off.

Which just left me awake in the house. I knew Nathan would be home, he called from the airport that he’d be here soon as he can and I’m waiting. The clock ticked and every minute he’s away the more scared I feel yet I’ll feel guilty when I’m near him.

Seth and I where very close to kissing. Our lips may have barely touched but it was a blaring siren in my head that I was in a danger zone. I’m pretty sensitive when it comes to life and where I end up. We all want a happy life with someone we love, marriage and kids and I knew where I was with Nathan.

So that was my theory, I belonged to Nathan and Nathan was mine. End of. There are divorces and that’s just our society but even as an idiot I will do anything and everything to have the best life with Nathan and Seth was not ever going to get in the way. So I silently vowed to myself to stay away from him.

“You should be getting your beauty sleep.”

My head shoots up and I see Nathan creeping in with an enormous bouquet of white and red roses. My heart swelled at the sight and I grinned. I leapt up and ran, shoving the bouquet away for now and squeezing Nathan into a hug.

“Belle, I…need…air.” He gasped and chuckled. My grip slackened but I kissed him fiercely and feverishly, moving my mouth and tasting his lips felt glorious. I moaned and I heard and faint rustle as Nathan let go of the flowers and wrapped me in his arms. His grip got tighter and we just melted away together with nothing but our pressed lips and buzzes of electricity shooting through up. I pulled away breathlessly but he continued to kiss my eyes, my forehead and neck.

“Oh god, I missed you.” He mumbled and I tightened my hold just to keep him close. “I missed you too. Thanks for the flowers.” We both eyed the mess of petals on the floor and laughed. They weren’t ruined so I filled a vase with water and put them in.

“I honestly expected you to slap me and kick me out so that was really unexpected.” He grins and shrugs off his coat and kicks off his shoes. He climbs on top of my bed and closes his eyes. His slow breathing fills the silence and I smile down at his face, innocent and beautiful.
