The air was thick with tension, everybody sucking in a breath, afraid to exhale and break the ice.

All eyes were on Alaina, awaiting her next move, while her brown orbs stayed intently fixed on the girl that had her arms wrapped around her fiancé, a huge smile on her face.

Relly and Cass exchanged looks before Cass tore away from his gaze, looking away.

She knew this would happen.

Right from when they were kids, her sister had always had a soft spot for Wayne. But as they grew older, it had blossomed into a suffocating kind of love.

A little away from borderline obsession.

But she had grown out of it eventually.

Cass just hoped it was still that way.

Last thing she wanted was to be the cause of an argument between the lovebirds.

Her eyes flickered back to Alaina, whose facial expressions did nothing to give away what she was thinking.

Oddly, Alaina wasn't jealous.

She wasn't even in the slightest bit uncomfortable.

She was kinda just nonchalant.

"I'm so sorry" Vanessa apologized, chuckling a bit as she pulled away from Wayne. "I got carried away"

She hadn't even intended to hug him like that. But she had gotten overwhelmed by the many emotions she was feeling. It had been eight years and some change since she had seen him after all.

"Hey. I'm Vanessa" she introduced herself to Alaina with a small wave. "And can I just say you're prettier in person"

Vanessa had to admit that she was much more beautiful up close than she had been in her pictures. She had the prettiest eyes she had ever seen and she wasn't even trying to butter her up.

Everybody, Wayne included, tensed up again when Alaina didn't reply, instead scanning the female before her like she was trying to figure out something.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, a small smile appeared on her face.

"Thanks" she replied, the smile growing a bit. "You look familiar tho"

"Me? Really?"

"Yeah" she nodded, still thinking about it. "I feel like I've seen you somewhere before. On TV maybe? I'm not really sure"

"I don't think so" Vanessa denied.

"Oh okay then" she brushed it off. She probably just had one of those faces.

Before she could speak again, a loud cry broke out.

Zeniyah was awake.

"I got it" she told Wayne, going to scoop the infant out of the stroller.

Wayne hadn't even made a move tho. He was still rooted to the spot, shocked that Vanessa had somehow managed to walk back into his life.

"Well it was nice to meet you Vanessa. Why don't you make yourself at home in the meantime?" She flashed her a warm smile before disappearing upstairs, the crying child in her arms.

Vanessa liked Alaina.

She had decided that about ten minutes into their conversation. She was funny, energetic and just plain friendly.
