Alaina was getting ready to leave. She had already taken a shower and she was just about to start her makeup.
Wayne didn't like it.
He didn't like it one bit.
He liked it even less when he found out who she was going to see.
Vanessa.
The two women had been texting back and forth, making plans to get together and he wasn't feeling their newfound friendship at all.
He had never been one to clock the kind of friends his girl kept but it was different this time. One part of him wanted to just stop overthinking it and let it go but the other part just wanted to tie Alaina up and keep her from leaving.
He didn't need her to find out things that his stupid immature self had done in the past.
"What are you pouting about? It's only gonna be a few hours" she told him, giving him a look through the mirror in front of her.
He had been in a mood ever since she told him that she was going to hang out with Vanessa and she was starting to get annoyed.
If he had a problem with it, all he had to do was say so.
"Do you really have to go?" He asked, letting out a dramatic sigh.
"Well the kids are with mum, you're going to the studio and I can't just stay home all alone and do nothing so yes" she answered.
"I'd probably stay back home if you asked me to"
"Wayne" she called, unimpressed.
-
"Have you ever been so in love that you just......lose yourself?"
The answer was yes.
Oddly, it wasn't with Wayne.
It was back when she was still in high school. When she was still with Jay.
She remembered trying so hard to please him, even though that was almost nearly impossible. She really tried so hard. Cancelling plans. Getting rid of some of her clothes that he claimed he didn't like. Cutting friends off just because he didn't like them.
Doing damn near everything he said and hanging off his every word and command like a little dog.
Like his bitch, as he used to call her.
"....yeah" she muttered, fingering a shirt she had been eyeing on the rack of clothes before her.
"And what was it like?" Vanessa asked, picking up another dress to add to the pile she already had.
She had lost all her friends, save for Zee. She had lost her dad too. She had barely made it out of high school.
She didn't even know who she was then.
"It felt like hell" she answered truthfully, swallowing the lump in her throat.
It really was hell. A hell on earth.
