Felix's POV
Same day"Hello, my name's Lee Felix and I'm excited to join the Film Club," I say, revising what I've been rehearsing all morning. The classroom echoes in the maximum claps it could, satisfying my nerves.
I take my seat at the front, empty desk. Beside me, a boy from my grade introduced himself as Christopher while the other next to him was Taehyun.
"It's nice to see another English speaker," Christopher says. I stop short at his comment. "Australian?"
I couldn't hide my grin as I nodded. "Hey, that's great! I'm glad to meet another Aussie. I'm not exactly the best at Korean," he murmurs, shielding his mouth with one hand.
"I'm not either," I admit, feeling my cheeks flush red. He high five's me at that. "This isn't a very big club," I say, glancing to Taehyun working heavily on his laptop. So I was the third.
Christopher follows my gaze and nods. "Yeah, we need a total of 8 members to actually stay a club this year. Budget cuts are a pain right now," he sighs. I took the moment to admire his blonde hair similar to mine. It was a hard adjustment to move here then not see anyone else with blonde hair.
If he is to be my next friend, I'm not complaining one bit.
"I'm in student council," he says, pulling out his phone. He seemed to pull up some schedule before reciting it. "We plan on creating a movie for the arts fair, which would take almost all of this quarter to make," he sighs, shutting off his phone and going back up to me. "We also can't really afford too much equipment. Last year, a fire broke out in the photography club next door. Well, it spread to here, damaging all of our stuff, and it took all summer to fix the classroom."
"Dang, sorry to hear that," I say. My legs pivot to the side of the seat so I now faced him while he got out his computer.
I clasp my hands and wait patiently for what he was to do next. "What position do you want?" He asks, not looking up as he types a few things.
I blank out at the question. "Um...I don't know. What position are you?"
"Me? I'm in charge of sound," he replies, smiling as if joyful someone asked something about him. A spark of remorse settled over me at the possibility.
So I went on. "You don't have a director?"
He shakes his head. "We kinda all just...have multiple parts. And now that the seniors are gone, we're left with a team of 3 instead of our usual 8." His tone went down into frustration quickly, but picked back up with a simple smile. "I'm glad you joined though."
I chuckle at his mood change. "Why? We've never met before." And it was true. I've only been here for 3 weeks and so far, Christopher's been the only one to talk to me this freely.
"Well, one: those posters we put out always got covered by like cheerleading tryouts and homecoming fundraisers." I snort a laugh at that. He joins in before briefly continuing. "So when I heard you were gonna join, I was really happy."
I nod, my cheeks beating with heat. "Thank you. I'm glad I joined."
Just when he was going to say something more, the bell ring throughout the building. Time to go home. "Well," he sighs, getting up and packing away his laptop, "I'll put you down for director."
"Wait what?"
I follow him to the door where his smile withheld the entire way to the lockers. "What do you mean "director?" I'm no director," I say, his attention purposely diverged to tease me. "That's so much responsibility!"
