Chapter 17 – The Riyute Wave

Boom!
A thundering sound erupted, and my party and I were transported into a completely different location.
There were blood-red cracks littering the sky. All sorts of monsters were pouring out of the cracks, and they were wreaking havoc con the town.
I looked around to better grasp my situation, and I found Ren, Motoyasu and Naofumi' s parties standing next to me.
"We are near Riyute!" Raphtalia suddenly shouted.
"This is a farming village." Naofumi said. "There are a lot of people here!"
"Yeah, I have a plan on what we should do." I chimed in. "Ren and Motoyasu will aggro the boss, while- "
Before I could finish, the two of them started bolting towards the source of the wave. Their party members followed closely, and only my party and Naofumi' s remained.
The village had obviously not been evacuated, since the waves occurred randomly and in random locations. Thus, I had two choices. Either evacuate the village first, and fight the boss later, or do the reverse.
Ren and Motoyasu were rather strong, telling from their shiny armor and fancy equipment, so they should be able to handle the boss for now. Rescuing the citizenry would be the main goal. If they couldn't take down the boss for themselves, I'd arrive after the evacuation and help them out.
"Naofumi. Let's save the village first. Indigo. Lead Rojeel, Eda and Welst to the source of the waves and help the other heroes. I will be with you shortly after."
"Yes, boss!"
Indigo and the rest of my party quickly ran off in the direction of the other heroes.
"Now, Naofumi. Are you ready to save the day!"
"You bet!"
I drew the bow I'd acquired from the Sky Blue Wings, the "Sky Blue Bow". It was an extremely versatile bow, with good stats to boot.
Sky Blue Bow
Shoots one arrow which splits into three after firing, with each side arrow dealing less than half the damage of the regular arrow.
We arrived at the village, as the monsters were pursuing the villagers and trying to cut them down. Knights and adventurers were holding out in defensive positions, struggling to defend against the staggering number of enemies.
"Raphtalia!" I cried. "Evacuate the villagers. Naofumi, go help the adventurers. I'll climb to the rooftops and provide support."
"Right on it!"
I immediately sprinted to the tallest building in the city, kicked down the door, and began scaling the stairs. I broke a hole through the roof and perched myself along the edge.
Then I drew my bowstring.
Before they knew what hit them, waves and waves of arrows mowed down the weaker monsters, with the stronger and more fearsome ones flinching in shock. They realized where I was and began charging me in fury.
"Prison Shield!" Naofumi screamed, trapping quite a few of them.
This turn of events greatly inspired the defenders.
"CHARGE!"
The previously demoralized defenders mustered all their remaining courage and charged at the monsters, who were heading in my direction. The sudden flanking maneuver caught the monsters off guard, causing heavy casualties among them.
During all of this, I kept raining down a hail of arrows over the monsters, careful not to hit any civilians. Raphtalia started slashing at the monsters after successfully evacuating most of the village.
The monsters stood no chance. How is this plan going so well?
Just then, the locusts tried to pull a sneak attack on me and mounted an aerial assault. Lamentably for them, that is exactly the reason I equipped this bow.
The triple shots mowed through their ranks, cutting them down by the dozens. The remaining monsters fled, still being fired at by my bow as they retreated.
This left only one adversary left. The giant zombie.
"Naofumi! Raphtalia!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "Aggro the zombie! Knights and adventurers, do the same!"
"What?"
"Just block his attacks and constantly slash at him! If we deal enough damage fast enough, he'll die!"
They nodded in agreement as they headed off on their duties. Soon, Raphtalia slashed at the zombie's legs while Naofumi blocked his attacks.
This was my time to shine. I must carry the team on my back.
As fast as I possibly could, I rained down a countless number of arrows upon the zombie, which was still too preoccupied with Naofumi. This wasn't a glorious way of killing an enemy, but it worked, and that's all that matters.
"RARRRGGHHHH!" The zombie cried in pain as we whittled his health down, almost to zero.
Just before I could land my finishing blow, a rain of fire fell upon us, setting numerous houses alight. Many of them hit the zombie, causing it to fall over and perish. The few monsters that I had not annihilated quickly caught ablaze and burnt to death.
The building I was standing on caught on fire as well, and I descended it as soon as I could. Right before I reached Naofumi and the defenders of the village, I saw the knights heckling the group.
They were forming a circle around Raphtalia, bombarding her with questions.
This was an awful waste of time, considering there was still a wave boss to fight. I had to step in and do something.
"Greetings, knights. May I ask who you swear allegiance to?"
"Gladly." Their leader replied, the men leaving Raphtalia there and walking up to me. "We are the castle knights of Melromarc, swearing allegiance to Her Majesty Mirellia Q. Melromarc and His Majesty Aultcray Melromarc XXXII.
"Pleasure to meet you, fine men. I am Satoshi Sera, the Bow Hero. I believe we have important matters to tend to, such as that wave boss in the distance. I would kindly request that you assist me in defeating this foe."
"You are correct, Bow Hero. Men! Let's head off at once!"
We left Riyute village and Naofumi in the distance, the latter and Raphtalia tending to the wounded. With much haste, we bolted towards where the other two heroes and their parties, and Indigo were fighting the wave boss. As soon as I saw the creature, I immediately fired a volley of arrows at it.
To my surprise, it died immediately.
"Way to steal our kill, Satoshi." Ren quipped.
Chapter 18 out at some point!
