This Rain Changes Everything

Sapnap pulled back from the hug, wiping his eyes. He looked back out to the many puddles that were sitting on the ground. The rain was still pouring heavily. The noise calming him some more. He looked back over to his mother, her eyes were wide.

Sapnap looked up into her watery eyes with a questioning look. "What is it?" he asked her softly, fearing if he spoke too loud she might shatter. "Y-Your bruises" she ran her hand along the visible blue and purple patches. Some had started to heal going a green and yellow.

"Sap I'm so sorry" more tears fell from her bloodshot eyes. She quickly wipes them and looks away, crying silently. "I can't believe I let it get this far" she was whispering but it was loud enough for Sapnap to hear.

Sapnap sniffed loudly making her turn to face him. "Mom I wanna be honest about everything" Sapnap looked down trying to avoid her gaze. What he was about to tell her could break her heart, if it wasn't already broken.

"I uhm" he gulped, trying to hold in the waterfall of tears ready to fall. "I used to harm myself, but my friends are helping me get better. One friend in particular.." he muttered the last part hoping his mother couldn't hear.

He felt himself get pulled into another much needed hug. He never realised how much he missed his mother's hugs. As a kid his mother would always chase him around the house while he screamed trying to hug him. He always said hugs were gross, but he was really lying. He wanted to challenge his mother in hopes it would make her give Sapnap more hugs, even if he did have to run away for them.

"Sap- I- I'm so sorry I had no idea. Oh my lord, it's all going to be okay, alright honey?" she rubbed circles into his back. This got the waterworks back and flowing. Sapnap let his tears fall again. He forgot how much comfort he got from his mother. After so many years of her ignoring him he forgot the feeling.

"How do you want me to help?"

After talking for what seemed like forever, they made their way back inside. The rain started to ease, almost as if it was reflecting Sapnap's emotions. He was feeling better about the whole situation.

Some of the mess had been cleaned up from earlier. There was no broken glass laying dangerously on the floor. By now it was definitely dark outside. Sapnap spotted his mother making her way towards the barely used kitchen.

She busied herself making a sandwich. She walked from one side to the other gathering everything she needed. Sapnap stood frozen in the center of the living room. She was making food? Sapnap had forgot all about his hunger when he sat outside.

She walked out smiling, a plate in each hand. There was a beautifully made sandwich sitting on them. She handed a plate to Sapnap. "Eat up" she made her way to the battered table. Sapnap was still unable to move due to shock.

"C'mon we don't have forever" she laughed softly behind him. He can't remember the last time he heard his mother laugh. It had been years since he saw her at her true self. He also can't remember the last time they ate together.

Sapnap smiled as a single tear rolled down his cheek. He made his way over, starting up conversation.

Sapnap didn't go to sleep last night without telling Karl about what had happened. He , of course, was delighted for Sapnap. He was happy that things seemed to be getting better for his dear friend.

Sapnap woke up to birds singing happily outside his window. The sun was just beginning to rise, the sky was painted with pinks and purples. He sat up tiredly and wiped the sleep from his eyes. The crust scratching his skin. The smell of something sweet filled his senses.

He was reminded of last nights events when he looked in the mirror seeing his tear stained cheeks. But a smile rested softly on his chapped lips. Things seemed to be getting better. He couldn't wait to tell Dream.

His curiosity got the better of him. Out of habit he scanned the hallway before he left his room. He followed the smell down to the kitchen. There he saw his mother humming to the radio while putting toppings onto freshly made pancakes.

This was such an unusual sight for Sapnap. The years of constant insults about him being overweight (which he wasn't) really contradicted what he was seeing in front of him. But he took his chance before it was taken away. He cautiously walked over to the table where his mother who had yet to notice his presence was humming.

"Sapnap! I thought I'd make a little celebratory breakfast for us" The smile on her face was blinding. She really was in a good mood. Sapnap half smiled, "Are you sure I'm allowed?" The smile was quickly wiped off his mothers face, guilt rushing through her instantly.

She rushed over to him and pulled Sapnap into a tight hug. Sapnap flinching slightly, cursing under his breath for being so 'weak'. "Yes of course Sap. I'm so sorry I let this happen to you" She gave him one final pat on the back and walked over to the big plate of pancakes. She picked it up and handed it to Sapnap with an encouraging smile.

He took his plate and sat at the batter table, his mother sitting across from him. "Enjoy!" she smiled widely and dug into her food. Sapnap was still hesitant, yes he was started to trust his mother. But years of abuse just doesn't go away in a few hours, at least not to him.

Sapnap raced out the door, shouting bye to his mother. Dream was waiting in his jeep outside. Sapnap had told him to pull up to the house today. To say Dream was confused was an understatement. He opened the door was a frolicking Sapnap.

"What ha-" Dream was instantly cut off. "Dude!" Sapnap screamed happily. The smile on Sapnap's face was something Dream hasn't seen in so long. So he went quiet allowing Sapnap to talk.

"My dads gone! He had a fight with my mom and he just up and left!" Sapnap was still getting in and closing the door while speaking. It was only when he got comfortable did he look over to see Dream's surprised face. He burst out laughing. Today has started off good.

He continued anyway giggling every now and then when he caught a glimpse of Dream's face. "I told my mom everything too. She apologized and said she wats to make it up to me. I'm still a little sceptic but its nice" He smiled contently to himself, remembering the events of the rainy night.

Sapnap continued to tell Dream about what happened. They drove to school happily, singing their hearts out on this happy morning. He spotted Karl in the school car park.
