It had been so long since Ellie had been through the city during the day. It looked so different when she wasn't hunting down bad guys at night. She didn't take the time to notice all of the pain in the city from those who were in need. Those who needed charity more than they needed someone hunting down bad guys.
"Geez, there are so many homeless people" Ellie commented. She and Dick hadn't driven a city block yet where it hadn't been packed with homeless people. Elderly. Men. Women. Children. Poverty didn't discriminate.
"After Bruce left Wayne Enterprises stopped giving to the city. They cared more about their profits than their presence in the city" Dick informed Ellie. Lucius had done his best to keep the charity flowing but he wasn't a Wayne and people didn't respect his decision. Then he died and no one cared after that.
"I can't believe the city has been like this for so long. You don't see as many people out on the streets at night" Ellie mentioned to Dick.
"I imagine that they must hide at night. It's not safe for anyone at the streets anymore" Dick always saw the homeless squatting together in alleyways, trying to stay out of sight. He was supposed to move them along to shelters as a member of the GCPD, instead he let them stay together for warmth.
"At least there is someone out doing some good. The city has been a lot safer since Warbird showed up" Dick says to Ellie. "The city was in a bad place when Batman left" Dick remembered when the criminals started to realise that Bruce was gone. It was anarchy.
Ellie kept quiet.
"You think?" Ellie asked. It seemed that ever since she became Warbird more and more criminals have attacked the city.
"Not just anyone could have taken out Mr Zsasz and Copperhead. They're supervillains. There are only so many people in the world who could have taken them on and won" Dick explained to Ellie. He had a narrowed down list from his research of who the woman behind the mask could be.
"You sound like you've been giving it some real thought" Ellie noticed. And that stared alarm bells ringing in Ellie's head. "You almost sound like you're investigating her" Ellie added.
Dick sighed. "It's nothing major. Just a couple of things that I've noticed that I've put together" Dick shrugged like it was nothing. "It helped me narrow down a list" Dick told Ellie like it was the most innocent thing in the world.
"Translation you're investigating someone who could seriously hurt you" Ellie snapped at Dick. Ellie would never hurt Dick, but he didn't know what Warbird was Ellie.
