|Chapter 40.| The Originals.|
———————Dick couldn't sleep all night. He laid in his bed, in his old bedroom, just staring up at the ceiling. The girl he loved had locked herself in her room fifty feet away, and yet she seemed so far away after killing Falcone last night.
No one had been able to talk after what had happened. Bruce appeared closed off as he usually did. Constance was wracked with nerves about what would happen to Ellie, when Barbara found out. Isabella seemed relieved that Jason's killer had been murdered just as brutally. And then Dick didn't know what to make of the situation.
Ellie was the one person who swore she would never kill, but seeing a family member murdered pushed her over the edge. And now she was abandoning the mission that she had built her whole life around.
Dick looked up when a knock came at his door. "One second" Dick called. He jumped out of bed and pulled on a teeshirt and a pair of boxers. Then quickly answered the door.
Ellie was stood in the doorway. There was something different about her. She didn't look like the moody girl who looked ready to kill, like she had done last night. She almost looked, free. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail, like she always used to wear it.
How different she looked without the weight of the city on her shoulders.
Ellie had woken up feeling relieved for the first time in a decade. She had given away the part of herself that fought on the front lines for the city every night. Someone else could take over for her.
Ellie knew that Falcone would never be a problem to her family ever again. Killing him had finally given her the motivation to free herself from Warbird. The decision had been mulled over in her mind for a long time, but with everything that had happened in the past few years, she felt it was finally time.
"Hey" Ellie smiles at him. It was an unsure smile. She wasn't sure how he felt after what had happened last night.
Dick leaned his head against the door. "Hey seems like a bit of a flimsy word, after what happened last night" Dick tells Ellie. It wasn't a situation for small talk.
Ellie looks away. "I know that you're probably mad that I killed Falcone" Ellie felt stupid even saying it, of course Dick would be mad, everyone should be mad.
"Not mad" Dick interrupts her. "Just confused. You're always the one who swore she would never kill" Dick reminds Ellie.
Carmine Falcone was a bad guy, and Dick wouldn't lose a minutes sleep over him being dead, but it was going to effect Ellie, even if it hadn't yet.
