A sign of spring
Having had the water on hot as he was staring, Ned was jerked out of his thoughts as the water became even hotter, nearly burning his hand in the process. "Ow, ow, ow." Ned muttered as he flipped his hand desperately to rid it of the pain. Finally, it receded and he went back to work, grabbing his dirty mixing bowls and implements and bringing them to the sink. He stopped for a moment, contemplating whether he should finish these dishes and leave his unfinished dough to sit for a minute or let the dishes pile up as he got done with the mixing. As he stared at the sink in a daze, it began to brighten. Ned could feel the warmth of the light on his hands resting on the counter and knew at once it wasn't his kitchen light, it was the sun. At looking outside, he saw a small purple flower, a crocus. This was a sure sign that spring was coming soon.
A/N: This one is.....alright. Also, if the last sentence seems a bit weird, read it in a Southern accent. :D
