Storytelling

Ned stared at his phone at the table, scrolling through some article. He realized he didn't actually know anything about it even though he had been reading, no, more like watching it blankly, for the past ten minutes. Suddenly, the phone began making a chiming sound and vibrating in his hands, almost making him drop it in surprise. He shook off the feeling and stabbed the "Stop" button on the screen, effectively halting the irritating noise. It took him a few moments to find the oven mitt and use it to take out the pan, but once it was out, all this was in the back of his mind as he began analysing the cookies, making sure they were truly baked before scraping them off the hot aluminum. Grimacing at the first few that looked like piles of melty crumbs, he turned around and heard a knock at his door. Ah, yes, his neighbor. He'd almost forgotten about that. Ned walked to the hall and pulled the large door open. "We're in a kind of hurry, sorry about that," Anna said, holding out the grayish cat which Ned accepted. "Oh, alright. Have a good trip!" He called after her quickly retreating figure. Oh well, he thought. Returning to the kitchen, he grabbed a small plate and put some cookies on it while still holding the small cat under his other arm. Plopping back down in his comfy chair, he picked up the essay and glanced down at the fluff in his lap, who stared back at him almost expectantly. "Oh, all right, you can hear it too." Taking a deep breath, he read out the first words on the paper.

A/N: Welp, I took wayyyyy too long of a break.  I'm also running into a bit of trouble, seeing as I planned to write more to post, but none of it is very good anymore.  So while I try to up my game again, I hope I don't run out of old essays to post XD.
