Y/N's POV
Officer: So these things out there... they're not people. They are man-eating monsters, and the only way to kill them is?
Everyone: To destroy the brain.
Officer: Exactly. But don't be afraid, it's only the bite that turns you into one of them...
Aasim: People turning into man-eating monsters...
Glenn: I thought those were only on the movies.
Louis: You think our families are okay?
I looked at Louis sympathetically. He never got on with his parents, and he hated it.
Y/N: Yeah, they're all gonna be okay.
Officer: We're gonna be patrolling the halls, you need anything ask you teachers.
And with that, the cops left to do their jobs, and Mr Smith, our gym teacher stepped forward.
Mr Smith: Okay listen up. We don't know how long we'll be here, so we're gotta save the food. Tonight, only one roll of bread per person.
There became a murmur of complaints ranging from "but I'm hungry" to "that's just stupid", but the teachers never changed their minds.
After about 40 minutes, everyone was given their rolls. I was given mine last, and I was starving.
I was just about to dig in when I looked up and saw 2 kids wiping the crumbs off their faces, still looking quite hungry.
I knew the 3 of them really well. They were 9 year old, and their names were Jack and Alvin Jr. They were twins. Their parents were good people, but always worked late, so they always came to the afterschool club that I volunteered at whenever I could.
I ignored the monstrous growl from my stomach as I stood up and walked over to them.
Y/N: Hey munchkins.
They both looked up and smiled at me.
AJ: Come on Y/N, I think we're a little too old to be called "munchkins."
Jack: Yeah, when are you gonna stop calling us that?
Y/N: Okay, I'll stop calling you "munchkins" whenever you're taller than me.
Jack: That's not fair.
Y/N: Too bad, that's the deal. So anyway, I'm not really hungry right now, and I was wondering if you guys want my roll.
Their smiles widened as they eyed the roll in my hands. I grabbed the roll and tore it into 2 pieces, handing them a piece each.
Jack: Thanks, Y/N.
They all devoured the roll in a few seconds.
Y/N: Listen, I'm gonna be over there with my friends...
I pointed to the corner where Louis, Glenn and Aasim were sitting.
Y/N: If you need me, don't be afraid to come over, okay?
They all nodded and said goodbye as I got up to make my way back to my friends.
Mr Smith: Why'd you do that, Y/N?
I turned around to face my gym teacher.
Y/N: I wasn't hungry.
My stomach clearly wasn't happy I gave the food to the munchkins, as it chose now to let out another growl.
Mr Smith eyed me. He obviously knew why I gave up my food, just didn't say.
Mr Smith: "Not hungry", huh? Alright, lights out everyone!
There was a sudden shuffle of people getting into the sleeping bags we were given earlier. I walked over and climbed into mine, closing my eyes in drifting off into a much needed sleep.
