Y/N's POV
I walked over slowly, hunched over so I was hidden in the tall grass.

I unsheathed my machete and swung down.

*Slice*

The blade went straight through the walker's skull, killing it.

I pushed the corpse out of the way to get a look at what he was eating.

AJ: What'd they get this time?

Y/N: Looks like a rabbit.

AJ: Dammit.

I placed a hand on his shoulder.

Y/N: Hey, calm down. Let's go see what Mark caught, yeah?

AJ: Okay.

We walked back into the woods together.

AJ: Hey Y/N.

Y/N: Yeah, munchkin?

AJ: I just wanted to say thanks. You know, for keeping me safe. You and Clem both.

Y/N: Of course, buddy.

AJ: And for letting me come with you today.

Y/N: I'm gonna be honest, that took some convincing. Clem wasn't too keen on the idea, but once she realised you wouldn't be alone, then she agreed.

Just then I saw Mark heading towards us. With nothing in his hands.

Y/N: Nothing from your end either?

Mark: Nothing.

Y/N: Crap.

Mark: C'mon, let's head back. Maybe Mitch and Violet found something.

Y/N: Yeah, you're right. Let's go.

We were walking for a while before something caught our attention.

???: AARGH!!!

Without hesitation, I sprinted towards the screaming, quickly followed by Mark and AJ.

We made it to a clearing in the woods to see a man with his foot caught in a bear trap, with, what I assumed was his wife and daughter, trying to help him.

Y/N: What happened?

They turned around to see us running to them.

Wife: We were hunting for food when his leg got caught.

Mark knelt down and started fidgeting with the trap.

I looked over to see the little girl panicking. I knelt down in front of her and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.

Y/N: Your daddy's gonna be okay, don't worry.

Little girl: Please save him.

She whispered to me in a voice that nearly broke my heart.

Violet: Y/N!

I looked up to see Mitch and Violet running to us.

Violet: We heard the screaming. What happened?

Y/N: Got his leg caught in the bear trap.

Mitch: Just pull the release latch.

Mark: Yeah, small problem with that... there isn't one.

Y/N: What do you mean?

Mark: It's not there. The trap's been tampered with, someone removed the release latch.

Violet: We've got more pressing matters.

We all looked over to see a dozen walkers coming for us.
