I raced back to the kitchen, closing the door ever so slightly. My already porcelain skin would be ghostly white by now. I think I am going to be sick any minute now. My life is a mess already and now this.

"Dolores, what's wrong?" Marie asked..

"Nothing, everything's fine." I replied trying to compose myself mentally. It's fine right? It's no big deal.

"It can't be nothing, darling. You look as if you've seen a ghost." She said, walking towards me. She patted my shoulder in a comforting way. It did calm me a little. Why she has to be so good to me? Why does she treat me like my mother does? I am so thankful to her. If it was not for her, I don't think I would have been able to survive at this place.

"Marie, my grandfather is the guest Mr. King invited." I said still shocked myself. I can't seem to wrap the fact that my grandfather is a friend of Mr. King around my mind.

"What? Your grandfather is Antonio Brandicci. How..."She asked in a rather alarming tone.

"Yes. Why do you seem so shocked?" I said now confused. I get that I am shocked seeing he is my grandfather but why is Marie acting like this?

How does she know him?

"Well, Mr. Brandicci owns the largest pasta producing company in Europe and the United States. His pasta is known all over the world. He's one of the richest men in Spain. And well you are his granddaughter. It's shocking. Why would a rich man like him let his granddaughter work here as a maid."

"What?" My voice rose. Is this some kind of joke? How come I don't know that my own grandfather is a billionaire?

"I never knew all this. I knew he lived in Spain but I didn't know that he was or is a billionaire." I said more to myself than to Marie. Can't something in my life be normal for once? This is so frustrating.

"All his children work in his company in their different branches. In fact his wife only had boys, three of them."

I was completely speechless. I was shocked. My mind was blank.

"He is married? No one ever told me this."

"Umm...your mother is his daughter right?"

"Si." I replied in my native tongue.

"Maybe you weren't meant to know all this. Maybe they didn't tell you for a reason." She says sympathetically.

I wonder if my mother knows all this, was she the one that planned this to be a secret or both of them wanted it to be a secret. They made me think they were my only family members. He watched my mother suffer when my father died and he is also watching her suffer in the hospital.

When will the entire lying stop? We promised each other no more secrets. We said we wouldn't hide things from ourselves again.

I burst into tears remembering how I had to leave my education in middle so that I can work, to provide for my mother's drugs, he was there all the way, he knew all our problems and never decided to come to our aid. Is he that selfish? Does he even love us or all of that was just an act?

I felt Marie embrace me; I snuggled further into her warm arms.

She pats my back soothingly, making me calm. I can't believe all of this is happening. I want this to be a bad dream. I hope this is just a bad dream...

I entangled myself from her arms, wiped my tears.

"Are you okay?" Marie said so softly as if she's speaking to a wild animal and looked so concerned. I feel bad for dragging her into my mess.
