Arjun raised his Gandiva to fight those with whom he always fought with. "Why are fighting for him?" Takshak was a tyrant ruler, and definitely did not deserve protection from the Gods.
Years ago Takshak had performed severe austerities to please the King of Gods, Sakra, being happy with his devotee proudly asked, "O Takshak, the King of Serpents, ask whatever you desire," the pride and ego of the Sakra did not got unnoticed by Takshak, "Then grant me the boon of immortality, the divine nectar,"
Indra's eyebrows curved in confusion, "Takshak, I cannot grant the nectar, neither can the Parmatma himself, ask for some other boon,"
But Takshak just keep his eyes staring in the absent corner, "If you can't grant what I have asked for, then return back, King of Gods," Displeasure and sadness lacing his voice.
"Ask for anything else, and I promise I will give it to you." Was there anything in the world that the King of Gods won't be able to give? Pride had consumed him, and gave him another ounce of confidence.
"Then, I wish for your protection Devraj, whenever I am in trouble, I wish that would come and save me,"
"As you wish," and with those words, Indra was tied in the shackles of unrighteousness.Saving Takshak from the true King of Khandava, to sitting idle watching Takshak tormenting the innocents of Khandava, Indra was devastated, he realised that drowning in his pride, he did something. He begged Maa Parvati to defeat him and end Takshak's life, but she had better plans. "Devraj, I can easily defeat you and end Takshak's reign, but then, the people of Khandava will be exposed to Aryavart, where every King would want. Unnecessary wars would occur. Thus, I shall send Dhananjay, who is capable of vanquishing in fair battle and would make Khandava, the heaven on Earth," Devi Parvati's words soothed Indra.
When his wife, Devi Sachi had heard that Maa Pravati was sending Arjun to end Takshak's reign, she could sit still. Her mind racing in worries.
She worriedly paced around being tensed for Arjun. "Devraj, he is your son, and you gave a promise to Devi Kunti that you would be with him whenever he need, how can you fight him?" She questioned.
"Devi Sachi, I promised to be with him when he would need me, and now he is more than sufficient."
"He can defeat you? He may Shiv Shisya but you are INDRA," she exhaled.
"He is the student of MAHAKAAL, he is Rishi Nar, there is no way he wouldn't win,"
Indra smiled at his son, "I am bound my word, this is my Dharma,"
"Dharma never binds, it frees one. And if it binds you, then it isn't Dharma," Arjun loudly spoke.
And those words marked the start of a huge war.
As Arjun fought with the heavenly deities, he failed to notice the snakes trying to attack him from behind. But Satyaki and Kritvarma didn't. They rushed towards the snakes, stopping them in mid-way. Just how when the calm ocean would rise at the top, creating the deadliest of tornadoes, and then rivers would violently shuffle; Arjun was bursting out at the Gods and the brothers twisted angrily, killing the snakes who dared to try to harm Arjun from behind.
Arjun turned for a minute and saw the two. His attention moved back to the deities, but the two were noticed, and fresh in his memory.
Like the Mahakaal himself, Arjun created havoc. The soil turned red with the blood of his enemies. When the deities showed up, he used weapons such that would bind, but won't hurt them.
