The Balance

Chapter 20

"Elena is being haunted by a vampire hunter and we need Jeremy to kill a vampire in order to break the curse." Damon says through my phone.

"Wait hold up?" I says confused, I am in my bedroom at Klaus's house as I try to figure out where my relationship is standing with Tyler and work on forgiving my brothers for lying to me.

"Elena is being haunted by Connor, it's part of some vampire hunter curse." Damon clarifies, "We need you please ask Klaus to handover one of his hybrids?"

"He won't do that." I am slipping my shoes on.

"Well unless you know of any vampires in the mood for suicide I need you to ask him." Damon hangs the phone up and I sigh.

Once again always helping Elena.

I show up to the grill, "Klaus,"

He is sitting at the bar, nursing a glass of bourbon. "Ahh love you've finally decided to get out of the house?"

"Well the last time I left the house I was almost blown to death and shot so I think my bedroom is the safest place." I point out.

His jaw ticks at the thought of me being hurt by Connor, "I am sorry that you had to endure that pain."

I wave him off, "just another day in Mystic Falls."

"You shouldn't have to live in fear," Klaus states.

"I know," I sigh, I look around to see some of Klaus's hybrids playing pool. "Hybrid night out?"
I cock an eyebrow.

"Just drinking our wounds for the lost hope." Klaus takes another long sip. "Speaking of hybrids, where is your little boyfriend? He's been dodging me since I found out about his little wolf girl."

I bite my lip and look down at my hands, "I'm still trying to figure out what is going on."

Klaus tries to hide his smile, "I'm sorry.."

I glare at him, "no you aren't."

"You're right, I'm not." Klaus places his hand on my thigh, "does this mean you're ready to come back to me?"

I shake my head, "no - - I don't kno - - listen I'm not sure where Tyler and I stand right now and I need to clear my head."

Klaus's smile falls from his face, "I see."

After a few moments I clear my throat, "We think we figured out a way to break the hunter curse."

"How?"

"Apparently you need a new hunter to kill a vampire and that will put the old hunter in the afterlife. We found a hunter, Jeremy Gilbert. He is a potential hunter, and if he kills a vampire then he will end the curse." I say breathless.

He stares at me for a few moments, then finally speaks. "Where do I come into this new plan?"

"We need a vampire.." I pause "or a hybrid."

Klaus narrows his eyes, "you want me to hand over a hybrid?"

"Well think about what is at the finish line. If Jeremy is a hunter he might have a map to the cure"

Klaus cuts me off, "how do you know about the cure?"

"Stefan and Damon told me." I say slowly.

"Of course he did," Klaus rolls his eyes, "he can't keep anything to himself can he?"

"Not the point, if you have the map to the cure, you can cure Elena and make more hybrids." I state.

Klaus sits there, thinking about what I said. My phone vibrates and I check to see a text from Stefan.
