The Balance

Chapter 21

I grab a coffee mug from the cabinet and pour a fresh cup of blonde roast into it. The smell of coffee fills the air and I inhale it and sigh. I haven't been able to sleep, my body is definitely feeling the lack of sleep, I am exhausted.

I take a sip of coffee and pour more cream in it. As I sit down I hear Elena and Damon coming down the stairs and the enter the kitchen. She is smiling so big, her hair is a mess and Damon is beaming. They don't notice me yet and they make out passionately.

"Eww..." I shield my eyes from watching the make out session.

They both look at me. "What?" Damon asks.

I shake my head not wanting to speak about the fact my brother is hooking up with Elena right in front of me. I grab a travel mug and pour my coffee into it. "Nothing, I'm just going to let you two have some space."

Adrian, a hybrid, is chained up. Hayley, Tyler and Kimberley are all nearby watching as he transforms into a wolf.

Adrian screams in pain. "Please, no more, I can't."

"Yes, you can. Block out the pain." Tyler reassures him.

Adrian continues to scream in pain until Kimberley speaks up and makes her way over to Adrian. "That's enough. This is torture."

"Kim, stop. He needs to finish." Hayley tried to stop her.

"Not today, he doesn't." She unchains Adrian.

"Yes, today. Nate, Dean, and Chris are all dead, which makes Adrian Klaus' right hand. We can't let Adrian anywhere near Klaus until his sire bond is completely broken." Hayley steps in front of them.

Tyler looks between them, "Hayley is right. The bond isn't broken until he doesn't feel the pain of transformation anymore. If we want to get back at Klaus for everything he's done to us, Adrian has to keep turning."

"He doesn't have to do anything. Isn't that the point of breaking the sire bond -- free will?" Hayley and Tyler exchange a look. "Let's go Adrian." Kimberley and Adrian leave the barn.

Tyler sighs and feels his phone buzz. It's a text from Allison.

Allison: I don't want to keep avoiding this conversation.
Allison: We really need to talk. Where are you?

Hayley cocks an eyebrow, "everything okay?"

He nods and puts his phone away, "Let's go to the grill and get some drinks."

I open the door to the house and see Damon packing a bag and Stefan grabbing his.

"Where are you two going?" I ask them.

"Brother trip," Damon smiles.

"To where?" I eye the bag in hand.

"It's a secret," Damon walks towards the door.

"To New Orleans." Stefan tells me. "We need to find a witch to see if we can break a sire bond."

"Sire bond?" I look between my brothers.

"Can't you just keep anything to yourself?" Damon hisses at Stefan.

"Well we know Elena is sired to you," Stefan says, "you confirm that for yourself this afternoon."

"Hold up." I put my hands up, "can someone explain this to me?"

"No time sis, we gotta hit the road." Damon opens the door, "don't wait up. Oh and Elena is having a girls night here with Bonnie and Caroline. Make sure they don't burn the place down."
